US Vice President JD Vance struck a cautiously optimistic tone on Tuesday regarding ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran, while acknowledging that decades of mistrust between the two sides cannot be resolved quickly.
Speaking at a Turning Point USA event, Vance said Iranian negotiators have shown a genuine willingness to reach an agreement, adding that he feels “very good” about the current state of discussions. His comments come as diplomatic channels remain active despite continued volatility in the region.
The latest push for negotiations is unfolding under a fragile ceasefire, with roughly one week remaining before it expires. Tensions escalated after weekend talks collapsed, prompting the United States to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports, further intensifying geopolitical uncertainty.
President Donald Trump also suggested that renewed negotiations could take place in Pakistan in the coming days, raising hopes for potential progress in one of the most sensitive geopolitical conflicts in recent memory. Vance, who participated in last weekend’s discussions in Pakistan, emphasized that while significant obstacles remain, both sides appear motivated to pursue a long-term resolution.
The conflict, which escalated after coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has triggered a wider regional escalation involving retaliatory attacks and ongoing military operations across multiple fronts, resulting in significant casualties and displacement.

Wall Street scraps $25K day trading rule — a shift toward crypto-style markets?

A major shift in U.S. market structure could reshape how retail traders access financial markets, with potential spillover effects for the crypto market.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has approved a proposal from Financial Industry Regulatory Authority to eliminate the long-standing $25,000 minimum equity requirement tied to “pattern day trader” accounts.

The rule, which has governed U.S. equity trading for years, required traders executing frequent intraday trades to maintain a minimum balance — effectively limiting active trading to higher-capital participants.

That requirement will now be replaced by a real-time, intraday margin system that assesses risk continuously rather than using fixed thresholds.

Bitcoin was built on a promise that no one can touch your coins without your private key. No government, no bank, nobody.

That promise is now, for the first time in Bitcoin's 16-year history, being challenged from the developer community itself, as a part of measures to build defenses against future quantum computers that could compromise Bitcoin's blockchain and steal your coins.

The proposal

Jameson Loop, one of the outspoken bitcoin contributors, and other cryptographers, have ﻿proposed a move that could force bitcoin holders to migrate their coins to new quantum-resistant addresses or face having their coins frozen permanently by the network itself. In that scenario, holders would technically still “own” the coins, but lose the ability to move them.

It is called Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP)-361 and was updated in Bitcoin's official proposal repository Tuesday with the title "Post Quantum Migration and Legacy Signature Sunset."

This comes as a recently released Google report warned that a sufficiently powerful quantum machine could require significantly less firepower to compromise the Bitcoin blockchain than initially estimated. This prompted some observers to cite 2029 as the quantum deadline for bitcoin.

To understand the need to freeze coins, you need to know what it is protecting against.

Every Bitcoin wallet is secured by a form of cryptography called ECDSA, or Elliptic Curve Digital Signature algorithm. Think of it as a lock on your wallet. When you set up a wallet, two keys are generated: Private key, which is a unique password used to prove that you own the coins you are spending. Austin Federa quit as the Solana Foundation's head of strategy in 2024 to tackle what he saw as unfairness in the crypto trading environment. Eighteen months later, his company, DoubleZero, says it's ready.

DoubleZero aims to eliminate proximity to an exchange's servers as a competitive advantage for traders. The private fiber network removes latency, the time it takes for an order to reach the platform from a trader's desk, as a factor and introduces a more equitable environment even though regulators — and traders — aren't asking for it yet.

The problem, Federa says, is that crypto conflates decentralized with distributed. DeFi protocols are decentralized by virtue of their open-source code and permissionless validator sets, but when milliseconds determine who wins a trade, the laws of physics push validators to cluster in the same data centers anyway. On platforms like Hyperliquid, for example, Tokyo-based traders enjoy a roughly 200-millisecond edge over rivals abroad.

"Hyperliquid may be a decentralized system from a governance and user perspective, but it is not a distributed system," Federa said in an interview with CoinDesk. "It is still co-located in the same environment, even if it's run by multiple different entities."

It's a problem traditional finance has already faced. When the New York Stock Exchange developed its Mahwah, New Jersey data center over a decade ago, it engineered cable-length equalization to within a nanosecond because asymmetric access was bad for business, not because regulators required it. Simply, traders who felt disadvantaged would route their orders elsewhere.

Morgan Stanley’s freshly launched Bitcoin exchange-traded fund pulled in nearly $62 million within its first week of trading — a debut that landed in the middle of the strongest week for crypto investment products in three months.

Macro Shifts Fuel The Comeback

That broader rebound was driven by more than one firm’s market entry. Crypto funds globally attracted $1.1 billion in net inflows for the week ending April 11, according to asset manager CoinShares.

The turnaround came after five straight weeks of outflows that drained roughly $4 billion from the market and left investor sentiment battered heading into April.

CoinShares head of research James Butterfill pointed to two specific triggers: early ceasefire signals out of Iran and a softer-than-expected US inflation reading. Both helped ease nerves that had kept institutional money on the sidelines.

US investors led the charge. Based on CoinShares data, American buyers accounted for $1.06 billion — about 95% of total global flows for the week. US spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbed the largest share, pulling in $833 million, per data from Farside Investors.

Bitcoin And Ethereum Both Draw Fresh Money

Bitcoin funds worldwide attracted $871 million. Ethereum, which had recorded outflows for three consecutive weeks before this, saw $196.5 million flow back in. Weekly trading volumes climbed 13% to $21 billion, though that number still sits well below the year-to-date average of $31 billion, reports indicate.
