The flat day followed a modest $5.9 million in net inflows the previous trading session, signaling a pause in investor activity across all nine spot ETH funds.

What the Data Shows

Farside Investors, which tracks daily flows for digital asset ETFs, reported that none of the spot Ethereum funds saw any net movement on Aug. 14. This means that while some funds may have experienced individual subscription or redemption activity, the overall net flow across the group was zero.

The absence of net flows comes after a period of mixed activity for these products. Since their launch in late July, spot ETH ETFs have seen volatile flows, with some days recording significant inflows and others seeing outflows. The flat day on Aug. 14 suggests that investors are taking a wait-and-see approach, possibly awaiting clearer market signals or macroeconomic cues.

Context: A Brief History of ETH ETF Flows

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved spot Ethereum ETFs in July 2024, marking a significant milestone for the cryptocurrency industry. The first few days of trading saw heavy volume, with inflows exceeding $1 billion initially. However, the momentum quickly cooled, and outflows became more common as some investors rotated out of higher-cost funds or took profits.

In the weeks leading up to Aug. 14, flows have been choppy. For instance, on Aug. 12, the funds saw net outflows of $13.7 million, while on Aug. 13, they recorded $5.9 million in inflows. Agency action is accelerating
The SEC and CFTC have responded to the uncertainty by pushing administrative measures: rulemaking, interpretive guidance, and regulatory exemptions. Galaxy says the goal is to clarify how digital assets should be issued, traded, and supervised while the legislative path remains blocked. A staff interpretation or an exemption can be more useful in the near term than a bill that may never get a floor vote.

That speed has real value. A token project waiting on registration guidance or a trading platform trying to understand which regulator has jurisdiction can make operational decisions off an agency action far sooner than off a stalled congressional process. For institutional buyers and token issuers, the difference between a statute and an agency exemption is not academic. A statute binds the agency and survives a leadership change. An exemption is only as durable as the current line of thinking at the commission.

$SOL trades near $75.31 on the chart, close to the point where a descending resistance line from the early-July high meets the current price. That makes the immediate area important: a sustained move above the trendline would weaken the short-term bearish structure and could give buyers room to challenge higher resistance.

The first major level above price is $82.25. Solana previously reacted around this zone, and reclaiming it would provide stronger confirmation that the breakout is developing rather than becoming another rejection from descending resistance. Above $82.25, the chart marks $98.40 as the next significant hurdle.

Mubadala Investment Company and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, or ADIC, disclosed the positions in filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) covering holdings as of June 30. Together, the funds reported approximately 22.94 million shares of Blackrock’s Ishares Bitcoin Trust, better known by its ticker IBIT.

Abu Dhabi Takes the Hit and Holds the Line

Mubadala reported 14,721,917 IBIT shares valued at approximately $490.1 million, while ADIC reported 8,218,712 shares worth about $273.6 million. Anyone who has followed institutional filings through a sell-off knows the share count tells the cleaner story here. Neither fund reduced its position.

At the end of March, those same shares were worth roughly $881 million. By June 30, about $118 million of that value had vanished. There was no portfolio maneuver capable of hiding the damage in the quarter-end numbers. Prices fell, the positions got hammered and both funds finished with exactly the same number of shares.

There is one important catch with Form 13F data. These filings are snapshots, not surveillance cameras, so they cannot prove that nothing was traded between March 31 and June 30. Both funds theoretically could have bought and sold IBIT during the quarter. What the filings prove is quite simpler: neither made a net retreat by quarter-end.

Mubadala Already Built Its Position Before the Pain Arrived

For Mubadala, IBIT is substantial without dominating the book. Its roughly $34.77 billion reported U.S. portfolio is overwhelmingly controlled by semiconductor manufacturer Globalfoundries, which accounts for about 95% of the reported value. Blackrock’s bitcoin fund IBIT sits a distant second at roughly 1.4%, but nothing else comes close behind the chipmaker.
