According to the report, the US government aims to develop a scientifically significant quantum computer by 2028. The first executive order aims to direct federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, to work with the private sector and academia to transition to quantum computing standards for scientific research by 2028. According to the directive, the US government must transition cryptographic key systems used in large systems to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) by the end of 2030. Furthermore, digital signature systems must be replaced with PQC-based alternatives by the end of 2031.
