Is ‘multi-node’ ETH Labs the answer to ‘shrinking’ Ethereum Foundation?The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is set to reduce its role in shaping the Ethereum network’s future. And new players are now stepping up, with the latest being ETH Labs, created by former EF members.

According to ETH Labs, its main mission is to “make Ethereum the settlement layer of the global economy.” It bills itself as a non-profit research and development (R&D) for the chain and its governance token, ETH.

The new organization is a broad coalition across the Ethereum ecosystem from DeFi builders, venture firms, institutions, researchers, L2 founders, and more.  According to the firm, they’ve come together to “accelerate the next wave of Ethereum adoption.”

To achieve this, the team plans to build new infrastructure and products that the ecosystem needs the most. No details were shared about these products as of press time. But the project added, The new outfit is backed by Tom Lee’s Bitmine, Sharplink, and Joe Lubin (co-founder of Ethereum and Consensys).

The ETH Labs’ update was not entirely a surprise. Tom Lee recently rubbished claims that the Ethereum Foundation (EF) could face a funding crisis in the next 3-9 months. The community was concerned that the speculated crisis could affect even the planned post-quantum upgrade.

Strategy's preferred stock STRC slid to record lows over the past week, and the fall has revived a comparison to Terra's UST, the stablecoin whose collapse erased about $40 billion in 2022.

While the parallel is spreading on social media, it also misreads what STRC actually is, per Benchmark Research.

Two features invite the comparison. STRC is designed to trade around $100, and it fell to an intraday low near $82.53 last week before closing around $88.65 on Monday, roughly 11% below that level.

Critics have called that a "depeg," borrowing the term used when a stablecoin loses its $1 value. STRC also pays an 11.5% annual dividend, a yield that echoes the 20% return Terra's Anchor protocol advertised before it imploded. A high yield and a price drifting below its target are enough to trigger the memory.

The mechanics are not the same, according to Benchmark-StoneX analyst Mark Palmer. "STRC is not a stablecoin," he wrote in a Monday note.

A stablecoin promises to hold a fixed $1 value, but STRC never made that promise. It is a preferred stock, a class of equity that pays a set dividend, engineered to trade near $100 but with no peg to defend, so it cannot "depeg" the way UST did.

“Strategy’s objective has been to support STRC’s trading at a level near $100, not to guarantee it,” Palmer said. “In our view, what has happened with STRC is best described not as a depeg — something that was never pegged cannot be depegged — but as a market-driven reset of required yield.”

JPMorgan, Central Banks Contribute to Global Tokenized Asset Compliance EffortGlobal Institutions Publish Tokenized Asset Compliance Blueprint A group of central banks, international institutions, and financial firms contributed to a Global Layer One (GL1) white paper on programmable compliance for tokenized financial assets. The paper examines how compliance controls can be embedded into regulated digital-asset transactions.

Contributors to the paper include Banque de France; the International Monetary Fund (IMF); Kinexys by J.P. Morgan, the bank's blockchain and digital-assets division; the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS); and Standard Chartered.

Additional input came from Bermuda, a privacy protocol for regulated digital assets, as well as the BIS Innovation Hub, the innovation arm of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS); Chainlink Labs, blockchain infrastructure provider; GLEIF, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation; and other industry participants.

"For regulated institutions, full public-chain transparency is often incompatible with commercial confidentiality and client privacy," the announcement by Bermuda states. The company said its contribution to the GL1 paper focuses on privacy-preserving compliance tools that allow asset- and transaction-level policies to be enforced in private digital-asset activity. Bermuda noted:

"Every transaction can expose counterparties, amounts, and asset types. But the alternative, full opacity, can leave issuers and regulators with blunt enforcement tools."
