Ethereum Validators May Redirect Up to 10% of Staking Rewards, If the Validator Approves

Ethereum validators could soon play a direct role in funding ecosystem development under a new proposal that would allow up to 10% of staking rewards to be redirected toward public goods, infrastructure, and research projects. 

The idea aims to solve Ethereum’s funding challenge as concerns grow over the future financing of Ethereum’s core development efforts.

What the Proposal Wants to Change
The proposal, titled Validator Redirected Revenue, was introduced by Ethereum researcher Clement Lesaege and contributors as a potential protocol-level funding mechanism. 

It says that Ethereum suffers from a “free-rider problem,” where everyone benefits from ecosystem improvements, but few are willing to fund them.

Under the proposal, validators would vote on how much of their staking rewards should be redirected to ecosystem funding. If more than 51% of validators support a non-zero contribution, the selected rate would become mandatory for all validators. The maximum redirect rate would be capped at 10%, while validators could also vote to keep it at zero.

The proposal states that, “If 51% of validators signal a redirect rate above 0, the contribution becomes mandatory for all validators.”

Why Ethereum Funding Is Becoming a Concern
According to Lesaege, Ethereum has a funding problem where many important projects struggle to get support, even though they benefit the entire network.

The proposal says validators already have a reason to support Ethereum’s growth. As network activity increases, demand for ETH can rise, more ETH can be burned, and the value of staked ETH may increase.

“Validators fund ecosystem development. Ecosystem development increases network demand. Increased demand leads to more ETH burn.”

Bitcoin Cash [$BCH], despite a strong run this year, could face another major decline that drives the asset toward $100, according to new on-chain insight.

Data across the spot and perpetual markets point to building selling pressure, with key indicators flashing the risk of a deeper move lower.

Bitcoin Cash faces a possible 50% decline

The Aloha on-chain signal, an indicator that has marked the tops and bottoms of asset prices on multiple occasions, shows that neither target has been met for $BCH so far.

At press time, data from Alphractal places $BCH in the middle of that range, between its top and bottom. Joao Wedson, senior analyst and founder of Alphractal, said he would not be surprised by a further $BCH drop despite the asset’s record.

“Even with this impressive track record, I would not be surprised if $BCH still falls further.”

If a drop materializes, the signal indicates the price would likely find a floor near $100—the level that typically marks its bottom—roughly 50% below where it trades now.

Wedson added that nothing guarantees the decline, noting that “no market ever gives certainty.” However, AMBCrypto reviewed the wider spot and derivatives data to gauge how that move could play out.

$BCH whales place large orders but lean short

CryptoQuant data shows near-neutral sentiment across $BCH’s spot and perpetual markets, though two indicators stand out and point to a rising risk of a bearish move. The average whale order size shows large holders firmly in control, averaging 229.96 $BCH, about $44,688 at press time.

That control raises concern because the market’s funding rate has flipped to a negative 0.0028%, suggesting most perpetual-market capital sits in short positions.

AXS corrected sharply, but buyer-dominant spot activity and declining exchange reserves remained supportive. Axie Infinity [AXS] surrendered a large portion of its recent advance after sellers stepped in near the $1.25 area and pushed the token lower.

Bitcoin’s futures market has undergone a sharp leverage reset. Traders are now watching whether the next move will be driven by spot demand rather than derivatives speculation. Data shared by Cryptoquant on June 22 showed total $BTC Open Interest across exchanges falling from $26.0 billion to $20.89 billion during June.

The drop in futures exposure outpaced the decline in price. Bitcoin fell from roughly $71,200 at the start of the month to $63,234 by June 21, down 11.4%, while Open Interest contracted 19.5%, indicating futures exposure was reduced more aggressively than the decline in $BTC price.
