A former Ethereum Foundation contributor has warned that Ethereum’s development ecosystem could face a funding crunch within the next three to nine months. This raises concerns about the network’s ability to continue delivering major upgrades and long-term innovation.

Trent VanEpps, who worked at the Ethereum Foundation from 2021 to 2026, said Ethereum may be heading toward a “slow-burning funding crisis.” He explained that this will happen as key funding sources begin to dry up.

According to him, the issue goes beyond a temporary budget gap. It points to deeper structural challenges around how Ethereum funds and supports its core contributors.

VanEpps estimates that Ethereum’s core development ecosystem requires roughly $30 million per year to support client teams, researchers, coordinators, and protocol developers. He argued that this is a relatively small cost considering the scale of the network. Furthermore, the resources these teams maintain are significant.

However, two major changes are putting pressure on funding.

First, the Ethereum Foundation has been reducing its spending. In 2025, the Foundation introduced a treasury plan aimed at lowering annual spending from 15% to around 5% by 2030. This is meant to preserve its remaining funds.

Second, Ethereum’s Client Incentive Program (CIP), a four-year initiative that helped fund client teams through staking rewards, expired in April 2026. So far, no replacement program has been announced.

According to VanEpps, these changes could leave important development teams without stable funding in the coming months.

A major part of the discussion revolves around the Ethereum Foundation’s long-standing philosophy called “Subtraction.”

More than 95% of investors backed the proposal, which supports Capital B’s strategy of increasing Bitcoin per fully diluted share. However, full execution could significantly dilute existing shareholders.
The France-listed firm, Europe’s second-largest corporate Bitcoin holder with 3,139 BTC, is positioning for further Bitcoin accumulation. It’s rebranding from The Blockchain Group to Capital B.
Bitcoin news: Europe’s Capital B (formerly The Blockchain Group) announced on June 17 that its shareholders approved a plan to raise up to €105 billion. That’s roughly equivalent to $120 billion to fuel the firm’s Bitcoin treasury strategy.

The Paris-based firm is asking shareholders for a massive war chest, €5 billion in fresh equity and another €100 billion in debt, all in service of its Bitcoin accumulation plan.
The idea is simple enough: load up on BTC and push the amount of bitcoin behind each share higher. And shareholders, for once, were not in the mood to argue; each resolution sailed through with more than 95% support.Under the approved plan, Capital B can issue up to €5 billion in share capital (equivalent to up to 125 billion shares at the current €0.04 par value). It can also borrow up to €100 billion via credit instruments.

In practical terms, this creates a massive war chest, totaling about €105 billion. The company can deploy it to buy Bitcoin over time.

Shiba Inu is still struggling on the price chart, but on-chain data suggests that investors may be quietly accumulating the asset despite the broader market weakness. Sophisticated players still eye $60K as a near-term price floor for BTC.Singapore-based crypto trading desk QCP Capital has warned that Bitcoin may fail to benefit from the U.S-Iran deal.
