S token drops 5% as 3 former execs resign from Sonic Labs boardThe S token, the native utility asset behind the Sonic blockchain, fell 5% on Friday after Sonic Labs, formerly known as the Fantom Foundation, announced the resignation of three former executives from its board.

The S token fell to 0.031 on Friday, down 5% over 24 hours. The resignations include Michael Kong, a former CEO of the Fantom Foundation and director at Sonic Labs; David Richardson, who served as executive chairman of Sonic Labs; and Andre Cronje, who previously served as its chief technology officer.

“These are the people who built what Sonic is today. They remain invested in Sonic’s success and are handing off their responsibilities the right way, in full. From here, they will no longer make business decisions for the organization,” Sonic Labs said as it announced Matt Visser as its new CEO and Kosta Kourkoumelis as chief operating officer.

Sonic Labs is overhauling its leadership and governance structure as it attempts to address growing community dissatisfaction and a prolonged decline in its S token, which has fallen 97% since launching in January 2025 as part of a network upgrade.

“We are not going to open with a victory lap. The token is down. Community sentiment is down. We see both clearly, we are not spinning it, and we are not asking anyone to pretend otherwise,” said Sonic Labs.

The Bitcoin [BTC] recovery in March and April restored some positive sentiment in the market, but the retracement below $60k in early June dented this optimism once again.

Gumi удваивает свои вложения в XRP, консолидируя активы на сумму 14 миллиардов иен (приблизительно 90 миллионов долларов) в попытке стать крупнейшим институциональным держателем в Японии.

В пятницу платформа объявила о реструктуризации своего бизнеса на два направления: «Новые медиа-развлечения» и «Новый криптовалютный бизнес», при этом операции с XRP остаются её основным направлением деятельности.

Примечательно, что компания постепенно увеличивает свои активы в XRP, включая одобренную советом директоров покупку XRP на сумму около 2,5 миллиардов иен.

В основе трансформации Gumi лежит недавно созданное подразделение «Новый криптовалютный бизнес», которое будет работать параллельно с основным развлекательным бизнесом. SEC and CFTC Seek Public Comment Over Crypto Derivatives Rules After CME Lawsuit Threat

Less than 24 hours after CME Group announced plans to sue the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over Bitcoin perpetual futures, U.S. regulators, the SEC and CFTC, jointly opened a public consultation seeking feedback on how derivatives products should be defined and regulated. 

This shows that even regulators acknowledge existing rules may no longer fit today’s markets.

SEC and CFTC Public Comment On Derivatives Product
On 18 June, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and CFTC jointly requested public feedback on how digital asset derivatives should be classified, regulated, and supervised.


They said they want public input on whether current definitions created under Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act still properly reflect modern financial products and trading practices.

Meanwhile, the review covers several key areas, including the definitions of swaps, security-based swaps, mixed swaps, event-based contracts, and emerging products that have gained popularity in recent years.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said the agencies are trying to remove uncertainty that has persisted for years.

“Clarification is long overdue on Title VII definitional issues, including event-based products.”

Responding to Atkins, CFTC Chairman Mike Selig acknowledged that uncertainty has become a problem for both regulators and market participants.

“Today’s joint request for public comment presents an opportunity to address longstanding ambiguities within Title VII of Dodd-Frank that have stifled fair competition and responsible innovation.”
