Senate Banking Committee plans to hold key market structure hearing on ThursdayThe Senate Banking Committee plans to hold its long-awaited markup hearing for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025 (otherwise known as the Clarity Act) on Thursday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m.

The Clarity Act was largely in limbo after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced the exchange was pulling its support over stablecoin yield and other provisions in January. Last week, Senators Thom Tillis and Angela Alsobrooks released a compromise text addressing yield, which would prohibit crypto companies from offering yield on static stablecoin reserve holdings but allowing rewards for stablecoins involved in activities, seemingly resolving one of the key issues blocking the bill from advancing.

The committee did not release the full text of the updated bill publicly as of press time.The banking industry groups said they had issues with this compromise text and would provide feedback. A letter published by multiple banking trade associations, including the American Bankers Association, Bank Policy Institute, Independent Community Bankers of America, National Bankers Association and Consumer Bankers Association on Friday said "additional work is needed to arrive at text that embraces the innovation represented by digital assets while also protecting consumers."

The letter includes recommendations with specific edits to the text of the provision released last week.

The scheduling of a markup hearing suggests lawmakers are ready to move ahead with the current version of the text regardless of these concerns.There are still other outstanding issues — Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a longtime champion of the crypto industry, told the audience at Consensus Miami this past week that the Clarity Act needs an ethics provision barring senior government officials

Despite the short-term price recovery, Bitcoin remains in a bear market, according to CryptoQuant analyst Julio Moreno.Bitcoin profit-taking could accelerate as BTC prices climb to three-month highs and investors begin locking in gains, according to Julio Moreno, head of research at onchain analytics platform CryptoQuant.

Holders realized 14,600 BTC in profits on Monday, or $1.1 billion, following Bitcoin's April rally, Moreno said, adding that this is the “highest” single day of profit-taking since Dec. 10, when BTC was trading above $90,000
The Short-Term Holder Spent Output Profit Ratio (STH-SOPR), an onchain metric that gauges profit-taking by wallets that have held BTC for less than 155 days, also rose above 1, a level that indicates “clear profit-taking territory,” he added. He said:

“Bitcoin holders are realizing more than 20,000 BTC in net profits on a 30-day rolling basis, the first positive reading since December 22, 2025, following a period of heavy net losses in February and March that reached as deep as 398,000 BTC.”
Spikes in realized profit levels during crypto bear markets typically signal local price tops or sideways price action, Moreno said, adding that despite the rise in realized profits, demand has not caught up, and BTC remains in a bear market.

In February, $XRP tried to break out after the early-month calamity but was stopped at $1.65. A month later, the bears stepped up even before that when the asset challenged $1.60. During the following couple of months, the cross-border token’s attempts were exhausted long before those levels, at $1.50 in April and $1.47 in May.

On the positive side, all of these rejections were met by fresh buying power at around $1.30, which became $XRP’s most important support since then. Now, another buying signal has flashed, and the question is whether this time will finally be any different for the token or if it will be more of the same.

$XRP Buy Signal

Ali Martinez, who frequently touches upon the TD Sequential metric, noted that the indicator has flashed a buy signal on $XRP’s 4-hour chart. The metric is used to determine the exhaustion of price moves in either direction for the underlying asset. Although it doesn’t have a 100% success rate, it’s generally very reliable when it comes to $XRP in particular, as the analyst noted.

The latest example was on May 6, when it flashed a sell signal after $XRP tapped $1.46 for the first time in several weeks. The subsequent rejection pushed the token south by over 5% in less than 48 hours.



Martinez said about today’s buy signal flash that it suggests the “local exhaustion is over, and $XRP is ready to rebound.” He speculated that the first move would be toward the same resistance at $1.45 and posted a secondary, more bullish target at $1.80 “once we clear the overhead supply.”

Major Move Ahead?

This is not the first time Martinez has brought out the $1.80 target for $XRP, as he did so last week when he noted that the asset has been sitting in a tight range for too long and could be primed for a major move ahead.
