Bitcoin has now climbed nearly 30% since the US-Iran war began on February 28 — a run that has outpaced both gold and the S&P 500 even as the conflict continues to shake global markets.

A Week Of Potential Catalysts
Two events in the US Senate this week could add more fuel to that rally, according to 10x Research CEO Markus Thielen.

The first is a Monday vote on Kevin Warsh’s nomination as Federal Reserve chair. The second is a Thursday markup session for the CLARITY Act in the Senate Banking Committee.

Thielen described the crypto legislation as the most significant of its kind in years, one that could bring long-awaited regulatory certainty to digital assets.

As for Warsh — widely seen as more hawkish on inflation than current Fed chair Jerome Powell — Thielen said his confirmation would clear away uncertainty rather than create it. Both events, he said, lean bullish for Bitcoin.

The backdrop to all this is a conflict that shows no sign of ending soon. The US-Iran war, which started after a US airstrike killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has rattled financial markets for the past 10 weeks.

One of the central flashpoints is the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which roughly one-fifth of global oil trade passes.

Oil climbed another 4.5% to $98.68 per barrel after Trump’s latest statement, adding pressure to an already strained economic picture.

Bitcoin’s Swing After Trump’s Post
On Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social to reject Iran’s counteroffer to a peace deal. Iran had been pushing for war reparations and the unfreezing of blocked financial assets — conditions Trump flatly dismissed.

Bitcoin’s rally stalled in the $80,000–$82,000 range, where it has largely traded since last Wednesday. While fund flows continue to point toward an eventual breakout, macro risks, particularly inflation, suggest caution.

The U.S. is scheduled to report its consumer price index (CPI) for April at 8:30 a.m. ET. According to FactSet, the median estimate is 3.7%, up from 3.3% in March. If that proves correct, it would mark the largest increase in the CPI since January 2024 and be well above the trailing 12-month average of 2.7%.

Analysts are worried that such a reading, especially against the backdrop of what President Donald Trump described as an “unbelievably weak” U.S.-Iran ceasefire and still-elevated oil prices, could trigger risk aversion, potentially weighing on asset prices.

The crypto market capitalisation has stalled at around $2.70 trillion, reflecting Bitcoin’s indecision around $80,000. At the same time, risk aversion is mounting in global markets, which can be easily linked to profit-taking following the rally and the US dollar's upward momentum. Among the top coins, the leaders over the past day were Theta (+8.5%), Toncoin (+4.9%) and NEAR Protocol (+2.1%). The underperformers were Dash (-4.2%), Official Trump (-3.5%) and Zcash (-3.5%).

The sentiment index has settled just below the midpoint of the range, recording readings of 47, 48 and 49 over the last three days. At the same time, we continue to note how difficult it is for the crypto market to consolidate at the upper end of the spectrum, which indicates a predominance of bears.
Bitcoin points to much the same thing, having lost its upward momentum as it approached the 200-day moving average. Although this line is trending downwards, the market has failed to break through it for the past six days. On the other hand, as the decline is quite modest, it resembles nothing more than a breather following a rally, leaving a strong chance of growth resuming.
According to CoinShares, global investments in crypto funds rose by $858 million last week. Investments in Bitcoin increased by $706 million, in Ethereum by $77 million, in Solana by $48 million, and in XRP by $40 million. Outflows from Bitcoin short positions totalling $14 million marked the largest of the year.

Investments rose amid a compromise on stablecoin yields under the CLARITY Act. The Senate Banking Committee is expected to consider the bill next week, CoinShares notes.
