Bitcoin traders are betting that the price will hit $80,000 by the end of June, according to Nick Forster, founder of onchain options platform Derive.xyz.

Derivatives markets now imply a 14% jump from current prices near $70,000, he said in an investor note shared with DL News.

“Crypto markets are beginning to stabilise as geopolitical tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Iran continue,” Forster said. “Despite earlier fears of a catastrophic crash of the crypto markets, derivatives markets suggest those concerns may have been overstated.”

Forster’s $80,000 target lands against a volatile geopolitical backdrop. The escalating conflict in the Middle East has seen US equities falter. The S&P 500, and Dow have slipped 1.4% and 2.6%, respectively since February 27, one day before joint US and Israeli attacks struck Iran.

Coinbase shares slide on $400M Q1 loss, revenue miss

Coinbase shares slid Thursday after the US crypto exchange reported a steep first-quarter loss while revenue missed Wall Street expectations.

Coinbase reported a net loss of $394.1 million in Q1, its second consecutive quarterly loss after reporting a $667 million loss in Q4 2025. It swung from a $65.6 million profit a year earlier.

“Macro conditions were genuinely tough,” Coinbase chief financial officer Alesia Haas told investors on an earnings call. “Total crypto market cap and total crypto trading volume were both down more than 20% quarter-over-quarter.”

Coinbase’s earnings come as other crypto companies have also struggled to turn a profit in the first months of 2026 as a crypto market slump pushed some traders to other investments.

Meanwhile, Coinbase’s Q1 revenue was $1.41 billion, missing analyst estimates of $1.5 billion. Transaction revenue slumped 40%, while subscription and services revenue — representing its business outside trading — fell 13.5% from a year earlier.

Its earnings per share were a $1.49 loss, compared to analysts' expectations of 36 cents per share, which saw Coinbase dropping by 4.7% after hours on Thursday to under $184.

Coinbase’s stock has fallen more than 14.5% this year, prompting the exchange to pursue new business lines such as prediction markets and cost-cutting measures, including laying off 14% of its workforce, or about 700 employees, on Monday.

Despite the company’s earnings, CEO Brian Armstrong struck an optimistic tone on the earnings call, telling investors that “the world economy is moving on-chain, and Coinbase was built to capitalize on this transition.”

Brad Garlinghouse Explains What CLARITY Act Means For Ripple and XRP

The CLARITY Act passing would be good for crypto and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse believes that. Garlinghouse said Ripple has actively leaned into supporting the CLARITY Act.

“If we want the largest economy in the world, the United States, to lean into crypto in the way that helps, it’s good for Ripple if that happens,” he said. “But XRP has clarity.”

The distinction matters. Ripple is not lobbying for the CLARITY Act because it needs it. It is supporting it because the broader crypto industry does, and because a healthy US crypto regulatory environment is ultimately good for everyone operating in the space, including Ripple.

Garlinghouse also pointed to a concern he hears repeatedly from bank CEOs and senior financial executives. They are nervous. Not about XRP specifically, but about what happens when the current regulatory leadership changes. Paul Atkins is at the SEC today. But guidance is not law, and guidance can change the moment a new administration arrives.

“If you’re a big financial institution that’s had to deal with an SEC that has fined them billions of dollars, they don’t want to take a chance,” he said.

That institutional nervousness, Garlinghouse argued, is exactly why the CLARITY Act matters. Legislation creates permanence that guidance never can. Without it, major banks will remain cautious no matter how friendly today’s regulators appear.

At a pivotal moment for the future of money, last week an evidence session with the Bank of England offered something we do not often get: a clear, candid readout from the heart of the UK’s monetary authority on how it views digital assets, systemic stablecoins, and the digital pound.

After 18 months deeply engaged in the digital assets regulatory debate, as co-chair of the APPG on Digital Markets and Digital Money, I came away with two overriding impressions: the Bank is listening, and the Bank is cautious. Both are understandable. Neither, on their own, will be sufficient.

Let’s start with the positive. The tone of engagement matters, and it is improving. The Bank’s willingness to absorb and reflect on feedback, particularly on its consultation into systemic stablecoins, is both genuine and welcomed. This is not a regulator operating in isolation; it is one actively trying to understand how innovation is unfolding in real time.

That matters because stablecoins are no longer theoretical. Properly structured, they offer the prospect of faster, cheaper, more programmable payments. Improperly handled, they introduce risks that go to the core of financial stability. The Bank’s recognition of both sides of that equation is reassuring. It is taking the time to get this right. But here is the rub: time is not a neutral variable.

Other jurisdictions are making calls, some more permissive, some more experimental, all reflective of their own economic priorities.
