Strategy has raised approximately $8.5 billion over the past ten months through these mechanisms, including a perpetual preferred stock product known as “Stretch,” which carries an 11.5% monthly rate.However, capital pressures have been a persistent issue for the company due to these obligations, leading to periodic reviews of dividend funding. Instead of relying on issuing equity or holding Bitcoin indefinitely, Strategy has decided to sell portions of its Bitcoin holdings when it deems it mathematically advantageous. “Ultimately, I believe in math over ideology, and at the point where selling Bitcoin versus selling equity to pay a dividend is better for our Bitcoin per share and for our common shareholders, we’ll do it,” he noted.Strategy currently holds roughly $60 billion worth of Bitcoin, making it one of the largest corporate holders globally. Solana outpaces Bitcoin in May – What’s driving SOL’s risk-on rally?
Solana leads tokenized stock trading as U.S. equities hit new highs, raising questions about whether rising institutional SOL exposure is a strategic positioning.Investor risk appetite is clearly back in full swing, and the current capital flows make that pretty obvious.

Even with renewed macro FUD after U.S. President Donald Trump commented on Iran’s response to the peace deal, U.S. equities have kept pushing higher. The S&P 500 has now logged seven straight weekly gains and even crossed 7,400 for the first time in history. Other major indices are seeing similar steady inflows.

In short, investors are firmly in risk-on mode again. The crypto market is tracking that sentiment closely. On the monthly chart, digital assets are rallying strongly, with Bitcoin [BTC] up more than 7%. However, compared to Solana [SOL], Bitcoin’s move looks relatively subdued.To put it in perspective, SOL’s May rally so far is nearly 10x larger than BTC’s. 

So naturally, the question is: What’s driving Solana’s outperformance? Notably, this is where momentum in the U.S. stock market starts to matter. As the chart above shows, Solana’s tokenized stock trading volume has continued to lead all other chains for 48 consecutive weeks, recording about $143 million in volume versus roughly $2.1 million combined across competing chains. 

Why does this matter? In practice, rising activity in U.S. stocks tends to translate into greater demand for on-chain exposure to similar instruments, and Solana’s fast, low-cost infrastructure makes it a natural venue for that flow. This raises a key question: Is the growing institutional support for SOL this quarter purely strategic positioning to capture this emerging tokenized equity flow?

MARA Holdings (MARA) is still producing bitcoin , but it is getting harder to argue that mining is its core business.

In its first-quarter earnings statement, the company said it does not expect to make large-scale purchases of the specialist ASIC machines used in the process. Historically, big purchases have been the easiest way to read a miner’s growth plans. Less appetite for new machines means less emphasis on expanding pure mining capacity.

Instead, its power strategy is increasingly aimed at AI and high-performance computing. The company wants to place new infrastructure alongside existing mining operations, allowing it to generate bitcoin revenue while keeping the option to redirect power toward AI and critical IT loads as demand matures.

Around 90% of MARA’s non-hosted mining capacity could eventually be used for AI and IT infrastructure, the company said.

First-quarter revenue fell 18% from a year earlier to $174.6 million, the company said Monday. Its net loss widened to $1.3 billion, largely tied to unrealized losses on its 38,689 bitcoin. The largest cryptocurrency fell 17% in the 12-month period.

MARA said it sold $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin during the quarter to improve liquidity and retire debt. That includes a $1.1 billion sale near quarter-end to fund a convertible note repurchase. As a result, MARA dropped two places to become the fourth-largest publicly traded holder of bitcoin, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data cited in the filing notes.

Public miners spent much of the last cycle being valued partly on how much bitcoin they could mine and keep. MARA is now showing a different priority, using bitcoin as balance-sheet ammunition when needed.

The strategy shift is already backed by deals. MARA has a partnership with Starwood Capital and agreed to buy Long Ridge Energy & Power, a gas-fired power plant and data center campus in Ohio, in a $1.5 billion transaction. The company says the site could eventually support more than 600 me

Canadian crypto users have long been forced into an awkward workaround: convert their loonies to US dollars, buy a USD stablecoin, then finally do something useful onchain. CADD, Canada’s first regulated Canadian dollar stablecoin, just landed on Coinbase’s Base network, and it’s designed to kill that extra step entirely.

Launched on May 4 by Tetra Digital Group, CADD is pegged 1:1 to the Canadian dollar and backed by CAD reserves. It received regulatory approval from the Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, making it not just another stablecoin experiment but a fully sanctioned financial product operating within Canada’s regulatory framework.

What CADD actually is and who’s behind it

The institutional backing here is worth paying attention to. National Bank of Canada, ATB Financial, Wealthsimple, and Shopify are all supporting the project.

Tetra Trust, the entity behind Tetra Digital Group, holds a distinction that matters in this context: it’s Canada’s first regulated digital asset custodian.

The stablecoin is currently live on three platforms: Base, the Ethereum mainnet, and Tempo. Solana integration is planned for a future date.

Why Base, and why now

Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, has processed over 167 million transactions in agentic economies, making it one of the most active L2s in the ecosystem.

For CADD, launching on Base makes strategic sense. The network offers lower transaction costs than Ethereum mainnet while maintaining the security guarantees of Ethereum’s base layer. For a stablecoin designed to facilitate everyday transactions and 24/7 trade settlements, keeping fees low isn’t optional.
