CME, ICE push U.S. regulators to scrutinize Hyperliquid over manipulation risks
CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, are urging U.S. regulators to scrutinize decentralized derivatives exchange Hyperliquid over concerns tied to market manipulation and sanctions evasion, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday.

Executives from CME and ICE have raised alarms with officials at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and lawmakers on Capitol Hill, arguing that Hyperliquid’s rapidly growing perpetual futures marketplace could create systemic risks for traditional commodities markets, particularly oil, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the discussions.

STRC milestone sparks debate

The timing of STRC-led Bitcoin accumulation is significant for several reasons.

On the technical side, 200DMA quantile positioning shows BTC entering overbought territory, a condition that typically aligns with strong momentum phases.

However, with price action hovering near $80k resistance, this may also signal a potential cooldown, where weaker hands are flushed out. Combined with recent ETF flow dynamics, the setup becomes more pronounced.

According to SoSoValue, over $630 million exited Bitcoin ETFs on the 13th of May, marking the largest single-day outflow in 105 days.

Notably, BlackRock’s BTC ETF accounted for 45%+ of total outflows. In essence, across multiple fronts, Bitcoin is showing signs of exhaustion amid rising distribution pressure.

Yet Bitcoin still rallied 2.26% on the 14th of May, reinforcing a strong underlying bid.

According to AMBCrypto, this is where STRC comes into play. With the setup aligning alongside STRC’s 20k BTC accumulation, the move suggests absorption rather than weakness.

At the same time, record highs in U.S. equities suggest that capital rotation is increasingly supporting Bitcoin demand. This divergence, therefore, is becoming a key signal for both sentiment and capital flows this cycle.

For long, Bitcoin has remained the major target for institutional investors, but lately Ethereum is turning up strongly on their radars too. Many companies have begun to accumulate the leading altcoin at a significant rate, with some even dumping a portion of their Bitcoin holdings to buy more ETH.

As the crypto sector expands, the market is now experiencing a major shift in institutional investors’ interest. A number of companies are starting to increase their exposure to Ethereum while reducing their exposure to Bitcoin.

Jane Street is changing the way it is exposed to cryptocurrencies by increasing its stake in Ethereum and decreasing its holdings in Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). The move is gaining attention throughout the crypto market because it may represent shifting institutional preferences in the market for digital assets.

Deci, a market commentator, stated that Jane Street’s addition of ETH funds and reduction of exposure to BTC ETFs does not automatically make them ETH maximis. However, it does point to a growing and real rotation.

Large investors are becoming more interested in ETH, possibly due to its growing role in Decentralized Finance (DeFi), tokenization, and blockchain infrastructure, even though Bitcoin has long dominated institutional portfolios. According to the expert, institutional investors are beginning to treat ETH less like an altcoin and more like a separate macro asset next to Bitcoin and Gold. 

In the expert’s view, BTC was the first digital store of value, but now ETH is becoming the financial infrastructure trade. Such a distinction, he believes, is where the market keeps underpricing the altcoin.

Faisal Monai, chairman of Saudi Arabia's largest tokenization platform, was a firm believer in the potential of digital payments long before Bitcoin's emergence in 2009. As early as 2007, he led the transformation of the Kingdom's $4 trillion cash-intensive payments system into a digital network.

Before the launch of SADAD, the Saudi Central Bank's digital payments system designed by Monai in 2004, approximately 70% of bill payments in Saudi Arabia still required cash at physical branches. People even had to queue for hours to pay their utility bills. Monai revolutionized this by connecting all banks and major billing institutions in the oil-rich nation through a single digital pipeline.

Monai is hailed as the "architect" of Saudi Arabia's financial system in the Gulf region. The system he created is projected to process over 14.5 billion transactions, totaling approximately $250 billion, by 2025.

In an in-depth interview with CoinDesk, Monai shared a bold prediction.  He has already secured $12.5 billion in licenses to bring Real-World Assets (RWAs) to the blockchain via droppRWA.

The legislation, passed on Friday, sets a framework for licensing, supervision, and consumer protection across the crypto sector, according to Reuters reporting. Poland faces a July deadline to implement MiCA or risk forcing domestic firms to halt crypto-asset services, according to the national financial watchdog.

The vote lands as prosecutors investigate the collapse of Zondacrypto, once the country’s largest exchange, where thousands of users remain unable to access funds. Authorities estimate losses at more than 350 million zlotys, about $96 million, turning the case into one of the most significant crypto failures in Central Europe.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has linked the platform to alleged foreign influence, citing security service findings that point to Russian capital behind the exchange. He has described the company’s origins as opaque and raised concerns about its past sponsorship of events involving figures from the nationalist opposition. Moscow has denied any role in sabotage or covert activity across Europe.

Zondacrypto’s founder, Sylwester Suszek, has been missing since 2022. Polish media report that his successor, Przemyslaw Kral, resides in Israel, where he holds citizenship, a factor that may complicate any extradition effort.
