According to market experts, BTC.D initially posted a strong uptrend in 2026, rising to around 60%. This move was fueled by an unrivaled interest in Bitcoin, highlighted by rising inflows into Spot Bitcoin ETFs, institutional accumulation, and macro uncertainty.

However, the Bitcoin Dominance has been declining in recent days, suggesting a rotation of capital toward altcoins. Interestingly, XWIN Research highlights an update shared by fellow analyst CryptoOnChain, who recently posted on the occurrence of “Altcoin Volume Increasing Trend”, a signal that appears when 30-day altcoin trading crosses above the 365-day average in the CEX Volume Ratio (Others vs Top 5).This observed rotation is also well reflected in price movements. While Ethereum (ETH) has shown little price change, assets such as SUI and SOL have registered respective substantial gains of 15.83% and 10.53% in the last week alone. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Senior figures from Google Cloud and PayPal told CoinDesk's Consensus Miami conference on Thursday that the next wave of internet commerce will run on crypto rails because AI agents structurally cannot use traditional financial accounts.

Richard Widmann, global head of Web3 strategy at Google Cloud, said the existing internet user experience does not extend to autonomous agents.

"An agent cannot get a bank account. It's not hard, it just is impossible," he said, citing technological and regulatory barriers. Crypto, by contrast, is "a fantastic machine readable interface for payments," Widmann said.

To address the gap, Google has launched the Agentic Payments Protocol (AP2), an open protocol that has been donated to the FIDO Foundation and has more than 120 partners including PayPal, Widmann said. He compared the move to the x402 internet-native payment standard given to the Linux Foundation.

"Open dialogues and open standards are really the foundation you need to build on," Widmann said.

May Zabaneh, senior vice president and general manager of crypto at PayPal, said the company is treating agents as the next channel after PayPal's evolution from offline to online to mobile commerce. PYUSD, the company's stablecoin, is "a very natural programmable layer for payments," she said, particularly as commerce trends toward globalization, AI-native experiences and tokenized assets.

Zabaneh cited a recent PayPal survey which found that 95% of merchants now see AI agent traffic on their sites, but only 20% have machine-readable catalogs. "Merchants need to be ready for this next era," she said. The shift, she added, mirrors the move from offline to online stores; merchants need to expose their products in agent-readable formats.

CME $ADA futures went live on February 9, 2026 — starting the mandatory six-month regulated futures clock required before a spot ETF can be approved under the SEC’s new generic listing standards framework.

The clock is ticking. The market, for the most part, is still asleep.

The ETF Timeline Is More Concrete Than Most Realise

August 9, 2026 is the date $ADA becomes eligible for the streamlined ETF approval process.

If Grayscale or NYSE Arca activates its filing on that date, the SEC has a maximum 75-day review window — putting a final decision deadline at October 23, 2026.

Firms like Bitwise and Canary Capital are also pushing for Cardano ETFs, meaning late 2026 could see multiple $ADA ETF launches simultaneously.

Grayscale has already increased $ADA’s allocation inside its Smart Contract Fund — from 17.96% to 18.33% — while reducing Ethereum exposure.

The Leios Public Testnet is scheduled for June 2026, targeting over 1,000 transactions per second.

The Midnight Mainnet — Cardano’s privacy-focused sidechain for confidential smart contracts — is also set for Q2 2026. The development pipeline is real.

The institutional positioning is happening. The price just hasn’t followed — yet.

The six-month mark doesn’t trigger automatic approvals. It opens a window where exchanges can list spot $ADA trusts under generic standards without filing separate rule changes.

Issuers still need effective S-1 registrations. The real tell between now and August 9 is whether spot $ADA ETF S-1 filings start appearing — signalling that issuers are lining up to launch the moment the threshold clears.
