Circle Shares Jump 16% as Strong Earnings and $222M Token Buy Fuel RallyCircle reported US$694 million in Q1 revenue and reserve income, up 20% from a year earlier.

The company agreed to sell 740 million ARC tokens at US$0.30 each, raising about US$222 million.

USDC onchain transaction volume reached US$21.5 trillion in Q1, up 263% year over year.

Circle, the stablecoin giant behind USDC, has seen its shares rally after delivering higher Q1 revenue and disclosed a US$222 million (AU$308.6 million) private presale for tokens tied to its Arc blockchain project.

Circle’s Q1 filing showed total revenue and reserve income of US$694 million (AU$964.7 million), up 20% from a year earlier. Net income from continuing operations fell 15% to US$55 million (AU$76.5 million), while adjusted EBITDA rose 24% to US$151 million (AU$209.9 million).

The mixed profit picture did not stop investors from focusing on stablecoin growth and the Arc raise. Circle said USDC on-chain transaction volume reached US$21.5 trillion (AU$29.9 trillion) in Q1, up 263% year over year.

Deposits from stablecoin holders were US$76.78 billion (AU$106.72 billion) at quarter-end, giving Circle a larger reserve base even as expenses rose.

Crypto markets stalls before inflation data as XRP, SOL rebuffed from key price levels

Bitcoin’s rally stalled in the $80,000–$82,000 range, where it has largely traded since last Wednesday. While fund flows continue to point toward an eventual breakout, macro risks, particularly inflation, suggest caution.

The U.S. is scheduled to report its consumer price index (CPI) for April at 8:30 a.m. ET. According to FactSet, the median estimate is 3.7%, up from 3.3% in March. If that proves correct, it would mark the largest increase in the CPI since January 2024 and be well above the trailing 12-month average of 2.7%.

Analysts are worried that such a reading, especially against the backdrop of what President Donald Trump described as an “unbelievably weak” U.S.-Iran ceasefire and still-elevated oil prices, could trigger risk aversion, potentially weighing on asset prices.

"Markets are entering a highly sensitive period where geopolitics, inflation risks and central bank expectations are colliding," said Lukman Otunuga, head of market research at global trading broker FXTM. "The combination of elevated oil prices, uncertainty around the Iran conflict, and critical U.S. economic data could drive heightened volatility across commodities, currencies and global equities in the days ahead."

Still, the reaction could also depend on the core CPI print, which excludes the volatile food and energy component. The core reading is forecast to have increased to 2.7% year-on-year from 2.6% in March.

A Constitutional Arbitrum Improvement Proposal, or AIP, is the DAO’s formal on-chain governance mechanism for approving binding protocol actions. This amended proposal implements Judge Margaret Garnett’s recent court order, which authorizes an on-chain Arbitrum DAO vote to transfer the frozen $ETH from its current immobilized address to a wallet controlled by Aave LLC, provided that the restraining notice sought by North Korean terrorism judgment creditors is respected.

If approved, the proposal would move 30,765 $ETH from the wallet where Arbitrum’s Security Council immobilized the funds to an Aave LLC-controlled address, as required by the court’s order. However, the assets would remain subject to strict legal restrictions and cannot be freely used, transferred, or deployed by Aave LLC unless permitted by the court.

The legal fight over the frozen assets took an unusual turn after blockchain forensics firms widely attributed the exploit to North Korea’s Lazarus Group. That attribution comes from blockchain analytics firms and external forensic research, and has not been established as a legal finding within either the Arbitrum governance process or the ongoing court proceedings.

Still, that attribution has been cited alongside broader legal arguments by lawyers representing families holding roughly $877 million in unpaid U.S. terrorism judgments against North Korea, who argue that if the assets are ultimately deemed linked to North Korea for enforcement purposes, they could potentially be used to satisfy those longstanding court awards.
