Swiss central bank bitcoin reserve push fails over signature shortfall

Swiss campaigners will drop a bid to get the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to hold bitcoin in its reserves after collecting only about half of the 100,000 signatures needed to trigger a national referendum.

The initiative sought to change Switzerland’s constitution so the SNB would hold bitcoin alongside gold and foreign-currency reserves. The group had 18 months to gather signatures and push for the country’s direct democracy to vote on the subject.

The Federal Chancellery listed the proposal as an amendment to the country’s Federal Constitution, requiring part of the SNB’s monetary reserves to be held in gold and bitcoin. The text did not specify an allocation.

The campaign had framed bitcoin as a neutral reserve asset and a hedge against exposure to dollar- and euro-denominated holdings. Supporters said those currencies make up roughly three-quarters of the SNB’s foreign-currency reserves, according to Reuters.

$DEEP price pushing to break the range resistance
The price action charts confirmed the increase in speculative trading as $DEEP attempted to break past the consolidation. The altcoin had been moving sideways for the past 100 days.

The Choppiness Index reading sharply dropped to 32, suggesting the trend was strong. However, capital inflow remained in the negative territory as per Chaikin Money Flow (CMF).

A break past the range’s high at around $0.0380 would ignite reversal chances. However, for the bullish reversal to be confirmed on the daily chart, $DEEP has to reclaim the most recent lower high as support. This lower high was around $0.06.Source: $DEEP/USDT on TradingView
If that reversal occurred, the next resistances that could curtail the uptrend were at $0.07 and $0.08. Sellers at these levels may react.

India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the main suspect in a long running Bitcoin theft case on Saturday, pulling in two associates with him in Bengaluru.

The ED arrested Srikrishna, who goes by Sriki, along with Robin Khandeval and Sunish Hegde.

They’re facing accusations tied to a cryptocurrency fraud worth Rs 11.5 crore, ~$1.3 million, according to local media outlets. A special court gave the ED 10 days of custody to dig deeper.

This scam goes back to 2017. That’s when Sriki and his crew allegedly broke into national and international websites and made off with Bitcoin.

The stolen coins included a haul from a Dubai exchange, investigators think. The crypto then got funneled to people with political ties in Karnataka.

Sriki first landed on law enforcement’s radar in November 2020. He got arrested for allegedly buying hydro ganja on the dark web using Bitcoin.

India’s ED has been chasing this Bitcoin scam for years now. The police are investigating illegal crypto transactions, hacking, and various financial irregularities.

The case kicked up a lot of political noise in Karnataka. On April 20, the ED raided 12 locations linked to the accused and their associates.

Among the targets, places connected to Mohammed Haris Nalapad and Omar Farook Nalapad, sons of Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris. Mohammed Hakeeb Khan, grandson of former Union Minister K. Rehman Khan, also had his residence searched.

The ED thinks Mohammed Haris and Omar Farook ended up with proceeds from the crime. Investigators claim the hacked Bitcoin moved from the Dubai exchange to the Nalapads. The agency’s been tracing the digital trail.

Suspicious money transfers through Hakeeb Khan’s bank accounts triggered searches at his place too. Transactions between Khan and Sriki are still under investigation as part of the wider probe.

Bitcoin is facing resistance after weeks of upside that carried it significantly above the lows that defined the worst of the correction. The recovery had been building momentum — and today that momentum met a specific kind of obstacle that XWIN Research Japan has analyzed in detail, with findings that change how the decline should be read.
Bitcoin briefly fell below $80,000 today. Ethereum dropped under $2,300. More than $90 billion was erased from the combined crypto market cap from recent highs, with approximately $331 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours — nearly $100 million of that occurring within a single two-hour window. The speed and scale of the move created the kind of alarm that typically accompanies a macro shock.
But the macro environment did not produce this decline. The S&P 500 and NASDAQ remained near record highs throughout the same period. Traditional equities did not sell off. Risk appetite in broader markets did not deteriorate. The forces that drove Bitcoin below $80,000 were not external.
According to XWIN Research Japan, the decline was driven primarily by internal crypto market structure — specifically the combination of leverage positioning that had accumulated during the recovery and profit realization from holders who had returned to profitability after weeks of recovery. The market did not break because of what was happening outside it. It broke because of what had been building inside it.
