As the global crypto market cap has once again fallen back to the $2.43 trillion mark, there is a lot of chatter building around an upcoming altcoin season.

Though the CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index – which defines Bitcoin or altcoin season based on the top 100 altcoins relative to Bitcoin over the past 3 months sat at 32, the hype had still been increasing.

In fact, if looked carefully, since January 2026, only from the 16th of March to the 31st of March, the index flipped to an altseason. The rest of the time, the index was only indicating an ongoing Bitcoin season.

Additionally, the Bitcoin Dominance chart by TradingView was also trading strongly in the past 90 days and has failed to drop below 58%. At press time, too, BTC.D was at 59.54%, hinting that the Bitcoin season was strong.

Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy has added another $1 billion worth of Bitcoin to its holdings, with the latest purchase financed through its STRC preferred stock offering.
Strategy snatched up an additional 13,927 Bitcoin for roughly $1 billion at an average price of $71,902 per coin between April 6 and April 12, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission—marking its fourth-largest weekly purchase so far this year.

The latest purchase lifts the Tysons Corner, Virginia-based firm’s total stash to 780,897 BTC, accumulated for roughly $59.02 billion at an average cost basis of $75,577. For context, that represents more than 3.7% of Bitcoin’s capped 21 million supply, implying about $3.6 billion in unrealized losses at current price levels.

Strategy funded its latest purchases by selling over 10 million shares of its variable-rate preferred shares, STRC, last week, raising about $1 billion.

Michael Saylor offered his usual Sunday teaser ahead of Strategy’s latest Bitcoin buy, posting an update on the firm’s acquisition tracker with the message “Think ₿igger”—hinting at a potentially large upcoming buy of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin and XRP Drive $1.1B Crypto Fund Inflows in Strongest Week Since January

Global digital asset funds posted inflows of $1.1 billion last week, the highest figure since January, according to data tracked by crypto asset manager CoinShares.

CoinShares head of research James Butterfill said the recent inflows were primarily driven by softer-than-expected U.S. inflation data and easing geopolitical tensions, both of which helped restore investor risk appetite.

Crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) recorded $1.1 billion in inflows last week, with Bitcoin leading the surge at $872 million, according to a Monday report from CoinShares.

The rebound represents a strong shift from the previous week, when crypto funds saw $224 million in inflows, with XRP leading allocations while demand for Bitcoin remained uneven.

When combined with Ethereum’s transaction count, the impact of these flows becomes even more evident.

According to Token Terminal, Ethereum’s total transaction count for Q1 came in at 200.4 million, the strongest multi-year volume seen in recent quarters, highlighting sustained network demand and activity.

In short, this data reinforces Ethereum’s strong underlying fundamentals, as both liquidity activity and network usage continue to trend higher. However, ETH still closed Q1 down nearly 30%, creating a clear divergence between on-chain strength and price performance
