Large ETH Players’ Portfolio Shrinks Sharply

After examining Ethereum whales‘ holdings, Ali Charts, a seasoned market expert and trader, revealed that these key investors are exhibiting a trend not seen in over a year. While ETH’s price is slowly losing its upside momentum, a major wave of selling has rattled the ETH market.

This heightened selling activity was observed among large investors or whales holding between 1,000 ETH and 10,000 ETH as they dump nearly a quarter of their holdings in the face of uncertainty. Such a trend underscores a major decrease in exposure, which raises questions about confidence and short-term market stability.

Since October 6, 2025, Ethereum holders between 1,000 and 10,000 ETH have undergone a notable regime shift in their market activity. Prior to the shift, the cohort was spotted in a steady accumulation phase. During the period, these investors’ ETH portfolio saw a rise from 12.95 million ETH in April 2025 to a peak of 15.95 million ETH by October 6, 2025. Fast forward to May 2026, and this behavior has flipped again.

As seen in the chart shared by Ali Charts, the amount of ETH held by these mid-tier whales has dropped from 15.95 million to about 12.52 million, which represents an approximately 21.5% decrease in their total position. Donald Trump announces three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine

President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a three-day ceasefire, set to run from May 9 through May 11. The pause in fighting coincides with Russia’s annual Victory Day celebrations, which commemorate the Soviet Union’s role in defeating Nazi Germany in World War Two.

The agreement calls for a complete suspension of military activities between the two nations. It also includes a prisoner exchange, with 1,000 captives being returned by each side.

What the ceasefire actually involves

Both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed the deal.

Zelenskyy responded to the announcement with a touch of dark humor, issuing a decree stating that Ukrainian forces would not target Russia’s Victory Day parade.

Zelenskyy also affirmed Ukraine’s commitment to the prisoner return component, framing it as part of broader diplomatic reciprocity.

Trump expressed hope that the temporary truce could serve as a stepping stone toward a more permanent resolution, characterizing it as a potential signal that the lengthy conflict might be approaching its end.

A history of failed pauses

This is not the first attempt at a ceasefire tied to Victory Day. Ukraine had proposed its own cessation of hostilities for May 5-6, a bid that did not produce a lasting agreement. Russia separately floated a pause covering May 8-9, also pegged to the holiday period.

Neither of those earlier efforts resulted in a mutually accepted deal.

Victory Day is deeply significant in Russian national identity, celebrating the defeat of fascism. Moscow has frequently invoked that legacy to frame its military operations in Ukraine, a framing that Kyiv and most Western nations reject.

Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis said May 7 that inflows have risen sharply since September 2024, helped by retail activity, market makers, and institutional participation. The trend shows prediction markets moving from niche crypto speculation toward financial infrastructure.

Retail traders first helped drive activity by betting on outcomes tied to elections, rate decisions, sports, and entertainment. That activity attracted professional firms seeking pricing gaps and stronger order books. Market makers now supply large deposits that support deeper trading, bringing prediction markets closer to derivatives-style venues. The traditional finance push includes exchanges, brokerages, crypto platforms, and asset managers building products around event contracts. Chainalysis stated:
