Japan's wholesale inflation surged in April at the fastest annual pace in three years, driven by soaring energy and chemical prices linked to tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in oil supply routes. The latest data has strengthened expectations that the Bank of Japan (BOJ could raise interest rates as early as June. According to BOJ data released Friday, the corporate goods price index (CGPI), which tracks prices companies charge each other for goods and services, climbed 4.9% year-over-year in April. The increase far exceeded market expectations of a 3.0% rise and accelerated sharply from March's 2.9% gain. It marked the fastest pace of wholesale inflation since May 2023. The sharp rise in producer prices comes as escalating conflict involving Iran and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz continue to disrupt global oil supplies. Japan, which relies heavily on imported energy from the Middle East, has been particularly vulnerable to the surge in crude oil and fuel costs.Import prices measured in yen jumped 17.5% in April from a year earlier, the biggest increase since December 2022. The weaker Japanese yen has amplified the impact of higher energy costs, putting additional pressure on corporate profits and production
expenses. Petroleum and coal product prices rose 5.3% in April due to higher crude oil and jet fuel costs. Meanwhile, chemical goods prices surged 9.2%, the fastest increase since September 2022, as naphtha prices skyrocketed 79.4%.Economists say the broader spread of inflation across industries could push the BOJ toward tightening monetary policy sooner than expected.

A senior White House official has accused major banking trade leaders of refusing to join earlier talks on stablecoin rewards, escalating a dispute that has become one of the final pressure points ahead of the Senate Banking Committee taking up the CLARITY Act this week.

Multicoin’s AAVE Bet Faces $40M Loss PressureMulticoin received 338,005 AAVE from a Galaxy Digital OTC wallet at about $218 average, for an estimated $73.7 million outlay.

With AAVE near $97, the position is worth about $32.8 million, leaving more than $40 million in unrealized losses.

Onchain observers flagged 150,000 AAVE moved to Galaxy Digital OTC and BitGo, raising questions about selling pressure, exit routes and DeFi blue-chip weakness during the current cycle for holders.

Multicoin Capital’s large AAVE position has become a public stress point after onchain data showed the firm sitting on more than $40 million in unrealized losses and appearing to reduce exposure. Between Oct. 13 and Nov. 25, 2025, Multicoin received 338,005 AAVE from a Galaxy Digital OTC wallet at an average price near $218, implying an outlay of roughly $73.7 million. With AAVE trading near $97, the position is worth about $32.8 million. For traders, the disclosure turns a high-conviction DeFi bet into a live liquidity event, where exit strategy matters almost as much as entry price.

DeFi Conviction Meets Market Reality

The original build looked like an institutional dip-buy. Multicoin accumulated across several tranches, including 210,000 AAVE after the Oct. 11 market sell-off and another 61,637 AAVE on Nov. 25 for about $10.94 million. At the time, the positioning fit a broader decentralized finance thesis around AAVE, one of the sector’s most recognized lending protocols. But conviction trades become harder to defend when drawdowns persist, especially in altcoin markets where deep OTC entry does not guarantee an equally painless exit.

Glassnode has pointed out how this Bitcoin bear market has so far seen a peak Unrealized Loss significantly lower than previous cycles.

Bitcoin Relative Unrealized Loss Has Dropped To Just 8%
In its latest report, on-chain analytics firm Glassnode has discussed the latest trend in the Relative Unrealized Loss of Bitcoin. This indicator keeps track of the total amount of unrealized loss held by the BTC investors as a percentage of the market cap.

Below is the chart shared by Glassnode that shows the trend in the metric for BTC over the last few cycles.

As is visible in the graph, the Bitcoin Relative Unrealized Loss shot up to a notable level alongside the price plunge in early February, indicating that pain among investors saw a sharp uptick. With the recovery that has followed since then, however, the indicator’s value has gone down.

Today, the Relative Unrealized Loss for the network stands at approximately 8%. The report described this decline in the metric as “a transition that shifts the prevailing sentiment from fear toward uncertainty rather than capitulation.”

Earlier, when the indicator had spiked, its value reached a high of 25%. This means that the February crash had meant that investor losses ballooned to 25% of the entire market cap of the cryptocurrency. This is a notable amount on its own, but a quick look at the chart shows that the level is in fact significantly lower than highs seen during previous bear markets.

At present, it’s unclear which stage the current bear market is inside right now. It’s possible that the fact that the Relative Unrealized Loss hasn’t touched prior peaks yet points to the drawdown not being over. It’s also a possibility, though, that the current cycle is simply going to be differen
