World Liberty sues Justin Sun for defamation in WLFI dispute
World Liberty Financial claimed Sun engaged in defamatory tactics and prohibited token transfers, including shorting the WLFI token and conducting straw sales on behalf of others. World Liberty Financial filed a defamation lawsuit against Tron founder Justin Sun in Florida, escalating a legal fight between the Trump family-linked crypto platform and one of its largest investors.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County, accused Sun of making false public statements about World Liberty and violating WLFI token-sale terms through alleged prohibited transfers, short-selling and straw purchases.
The lawsuit also accused Sun of spreading defamatory statements surrounding the crypto platform, demanding a court-ordered retraction and compensation from the founder. Sun denied the allegations in a Monday post on X, calling the lawsuit a
"meritless PR stunt" and saying he looked forward to defeating the case in court.
The lawsuit comes less than two weeks after Sun sued World Liberty over the freezing of his WLFI tokens, a dispute that has intensified scrutiny of the project's token controls and governance structure.
The escalating legal battle follows a period of growing backlash towards the crypto platform, which came under scrutiny for a proposal seeking to add a further two-year lock-up period for early investors holding the WLFI token, Cointelegraph reported on
April 16.
Sun called the proposal "one of the most absurd governance scams I have ever seenUS President Donald Trump and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, are listed as the co-founders of the platform, according to World Liberty's white paper.

At the time of writing, Notcoin’s total volume sat at 6.2 billion, offering little additional weight to the bullish case.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) compounded the concern, as it crossed above the 70 threshold into overvalued territory. At that level, the indicator typically reflects buyer exhaustion, and a price pullback becomes increasingly probable.

The strongest case for a bull trap comes from the perpetual market, where capital positioning and liquidation data both lean bearish.

CoinGlass data shows the OI-Weighted Funding Rate has turned negative again, and sharply.

At press time, the rate dropped to roughly -0.0676%, indicating that the majority of capital in the perpetual market is held by short traders positioning for a price decline. It stands as the second steepest negative funding reading of the year.

Liquidation data reinforces that picture. Short traders have lost $212,000 over the past day against $202,000 lost by longs, a near-even split

Paris-based Sequans Communications sold 1,025 bitcoin during the first quarter of 2026, cutting its digital asset reserves nearly in half as the IoT semiconductor maker grappled with declining revenue and mounting losses tied to a treasury strategy that has turned from ambitious to burdensome.

The sale reduced Sequans’ bitcoin position from 2,139 $BTC at year-end 2025 to 1,114 $BTC by April 30, marking the second major disposal in six months for a company that less than a year ago proclaimed plans to accumulate 3,000 bitcoin as a “long-term store of value”.

The financial pressure is evident in the numbers. Sequans reported revenue of $6.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, down 24.8% from $8.1 million a year earlier. The year-over-year comparison reveals the company’s vulnerability: the prior-year period included significant license and services revenue from Qualcomm that did not recur, exposing the underlying weakness in product sales.
