MARA Holdings, one of the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miners in the US, has made a significant change to its treasury policy for 2026.

According to the company’s 10-K report submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), MARA has gained the flexibility to sell its Bitcoin ($BTC) reserves held on its balance sheet when necessary.

This step represents a significant departure from the company’s past strategy of “holding the Bitcoins it produces as a long-term investment.”

MARA implemented a strategy change in the second half of 2025, allowing the sale of Bitcoin generated from operations, and approved the inclusion of balance sheet assets in the sale scope starting in 2026. The company stated that it may buy and sell Bitcoin from time to time depending on market conditions and capital allocation priorities.

As of December 31, 2025, MARA holds a total of 53,822 $BTC. Approximately 28% of these assets are managed within the framework of an active digital asset management strategy.

9,377 $BTC were lent to counterparties, while 5,938 $BTC were used as collateral for a $350 million loan. $32.1 million in interest income was earned from the lent Bitcoins.

However, the company also experienced a significant decline in value in 2025. Due to the drop in Bitcoin prices, the fair value of its assets decreased by $422.2 million. Furthermore, the 2,000 $BTC account managed at Two Prime recorded a net loss of $22.1 million.

MARA produced 8,799 $BTC in 2025, a 7% decrease compared to the previous year. This decline was attributed to the halving in April 2024 and the increased network difficulty.

stETH is the token that users who have staked Ethereum via Lido receive. It accrues staking rewards from the Ethereum network and can be used on DeFi platforms while the staked Ethereum remains locked. stVaults Lido’s new staking vault model, introduced in V3. It lets node operators run individual vaults with their own reserves and minting limits, rather than a single large pooled staking system.

Under the latest protocol version, even unidentified node operators can mint stETH from their stVaults. However, they must maintain a reserve ratio of at least 50%, constraining minting capacity to allow the network to absorb losses and maintain control over liquidity risk.

Additionally, the maximum amount of tokens they can mint has been set at 5,000 stETH (around $10 million) per vault in the Default Tier, which contains the unidentified nodes in v3.

In comparison, the lowest tier for identified node operators has a reserve ratio of 5% and the minting limit is set at 47,500 stETH. These higher limits are meant to incentivize node operators to become identified.

Although hopes for a further rise have increased after the recent surge, analysts are issuing a death cross warning for Bitcoin.

Accordingly, the death cross in Bitcoin signals a risk of a further 30% drop from current levels.

Analyst Mister Crypto pointed to the death cross, stating that $BTC has now entered the most brutal phase of the bear market.

Bitcoin Faces Further Decline!

In Bitcoin, the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) has fallen below the 200-day SMA, forming a “death cross” pattern that signals further decline.

Accordingly, $BTC/USD has given a new “death cross” signal on its three-day chart. This means that this rare bearish signal has appeared for the first time since June 2022.

The last death cross, seen in 2022, caused the Bitcoin price to drop by approximately 50%, falling to $15,480. Citing historical data, the analyst added that after the previous three death crosses, $BTC fell by an average of 80% from its peak.

Bitcoin is currently about 50% below its recent peak of $126,000. Historically, this means there’s a possibility Bitcoin could fall as low as $45,000.
