Fed minutes turn Bitcoin’s rate-cut trade into a hike-risk problem

Bitcoin's 2026 bull case rested on one assumption: that the Fed's next serious move would be a cut, but Wednesday's minutes made clear that assumption is no longer safe.
The Federal Reserve's April meeting minutes, released Wednesday, failed to bring the good news Bitcoin traders had been hoping for most of the year. The majority of policymakers said some degree of policy tightening would likely become appropriate if inflation stayed persistently above the central bank's 2% target, the opposite of the rate cuts markets had been counting on.

The committee held its benchmark rate steady at 3.50% to 3.75%, but four members dissented, the most divided Fed meeting since 1992, and a growing bloc wanted to strip the statement of any language suggesting cuts were on the way.

At the beginning of the year, futures traders were pricing two or more rate cuts before year-end and treating another hike as something close to impossible. By May 20, CME FedWatch was showing a 54.1% probability of a rate hike by December, with only 1.5% odds assigned to any easing. That's a full reversal in the expected direction of monetary policy, and for Bitcoin, those two things have very different consequences.

Jupiter drops 13% as fees slide 29% – Can THIS zone save JUP?

The crypto market saw heavy capital outflows as panic spread across the market over the past 24 hours. Jupiter [$JUP] was not spared.

$JUP, with a market capitalization of around $635 million, declined 13% during this period.

While the drop carried a sentiment-driven element, weak on-chain activity also played a central role. Momentum indicators now suggest bears are gaining control.

Why are Jupiter’s fees falling?

The fundamental picture for Jupiter continued to weaken as key protocol metrics declined further. Annualized Fees, measured on a 30-day average, fell 29% to around $332 million at press time.

A declining fee reading usually signals weaker protocol activity since fees come directly from transactions on the platform.

Daily Active Users followed the same trend, dropping 19% over the past 30 days to 37,800 users. This contraction reflected weaker engagement across the protocol and aligned with the bearish sentiment around $JUP.
