Bitmine’s Tom Lee hints at stock tailwinds after firm considered for Russell 3000
Ether treasury company Bitmine Immersion Technologies has been included in a preliminary list for potential inclusion in the Russell 3000 index, a move that chairman Tom Lee hinted could provide tailwinds for the company’s stock.

FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, published a preliminary index inclusion list for the Russell 3000 on Friday, its index tracking the 3,000 largest companies in the US.

Lee said in an X post Saturday that Bitmine could be included in the Russell 1000, an index tracking the largest 1,000 US companies, due to the index’s minimum market capitalization threshold of $5.7 billion. Bitmine’s market cap was $10.15 billion as of market close on Friday.

Lee said that “many active managers only buy equities on the Russell 1000,” adding that it is estimated that up to 25% of the market cap of a stock included in the index is held by passive index funds or exchange-traded funds.

Bitmine's inclusion in the Russell 1000 would place it in the same index as major US large-cap equities, including tech giants Nvidia Corporation, Microsoft, and Apple and could trigger automatic buying by passive funds, providing traditional investors with indirect exposure to its Ether holdings.

FTSE Russell will provide further list updates on, June 5, June 12 and June 18, and the newly reconstituted indexes take effect after the US market close on June 26.

Bitmine stock down 30% year to date

Shares in Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) are down over 30% year-to-date and closed trading on Friday at $18.88. The company announced plans to build an Ether treasury in July 2025. By July 3, its stock had spiked to more than $135. The company disclosed holdings of 163,142 Ether worth about $500 million on July 14 of the same year.

$SHIB futures netflow plunged 306% as outflows exceeded inflows, according to CoinGlass derivatives data.

CoinGlass tracked $SHIB futures netflow dropping 306%, with the total value of $SHIB leaving derivatives exchange wallets outpacing inflows. The metric tracks movement of tokens in and out of derivatives platform wallets and is used as an indicator of how traders are positioning in the perpetual futures market.

The 306% negative netflow signals that derivatives traders are actively reducing exposure rather than opening new leveraged positions. Open interest stands at $61.2 million, with $42,485 in $SHIB futures positions liquidated in the latest 24-hour session.

The United States has formally notified Japan that delivery of 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles will be significantly delayed. The reason: Washington needs to replenish its own stockpiles first, after burning through a staggering number of missiles during military operations against Iran.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered the news directly to Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi during a meeting in May 2026. The original timeline called for the first batch to arrive in April 2028. That date could now slip by up to two additional years.

Japan signed a $2.35 billion contract in 2024 for these missiles specifically to build counterstrike capabilities against China and North Korea. Japan’s deal was structured as two batches of 200 missiles each. The contract was designed to give Japan long-range strike capability it hasn’t possessed since 1945.

The US military reportedly expended over 850 Tomahawk missiles during the early stages of its conflict with Iran, an operation dubbed “Operation Epic Fury.” To put that in perspective, Japan’s entire order of 400 missiles represents less than half of what the US fired off in the opening phase alone.

Raytheon, now part of RTX Corporation, manufactures the Tomahawk. Production lines can only move so fast, and when your biggest customer just emptied the shelves and immediately turns around with a priority reorder, everyone else waits.
