The Justice Department plans to end its criminal case against Matthew Goettsche, who prosecutors accuse of helping run the BitClub Network fraud scheme, before an October trial.

Bloomberg Law, citing two people familiar with the matter, said the deputy attorney general's office instructed prosecutors in New Jersey to seek a dismissal with prejudice.

It also reported that Goettsche's lawyers told the court on July 8 that the parties had reached an agreement in principle to resolve the pending charges and needed time to finalize terms. The DOJ’s dismissal plan has yet to be formally presented to the court.
That leaves alleged victims awaiting the terms that would determine what happens to the case and any funds. Final deal requirements, the status of any dismissal motion, and the disposition of any money remain undisclosed.

While institutional investors continue to show interest in the cryptocurrency market, there has been a noticeable decline in individual investor engagement on social media. According to recent data, the volume of posts using the keywords “Bitcoin” and “Ethereum” on X (formerly Twitter) has fallen to its lowest level in the last 12 months.

Daily posts about Bitcoin have dropped to around 130,000, while posts about Ethereum have fallen to around 40,000. These levels represent the lowest social media activity seen since 2020, when institutional interest was just beginning to emerge.

Tweet volume is considered one of the key indicators measuring the level of interest of individual investors in the market. This metric reveals not the amount of capital entering the market, but how much investors are talking about specific assets. The current situation is noteworthy because, despite social media interest falling back to 2020 levels, institutional investors’ interest in cryptocurrencies is conversely accelerating.

In 2020, Bitcoin and Ethereum hadn’t yet fully entered Wall Street’s radar, spot ETFs hadn’t been approved, and holding crypto assets on corporate balance sheets wasn’t widespread. Today, the picture has changed dramatically. Spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs manage billions of dollars in funds, and asset tokenization holds a significant place on the agenda of traditional finance conferences and major financial institutions.

Cap Cuts Its 'Stabledrop' Airdrop to $4.2M from $12M as Backlash Mounts.The founder of Cap, a Franklin Templeton-backed stablecoin protocol, apologized for cutting a promised user reward to $4.2 million from the roughly $12 million the project had committed to in February, and denied accusations that he directed funds to a wallet linked to his former employer.

Cap said in a post on X on Friday that its "Stabledrop," a reward paid in the project's dollar-pegged cUSD rather than in its CAP governance token, would total $4.2 million. The company had planned to fund the reward through a token sale targeting a $250 million valuation and an offering of 10% of CAP's supply. When it ran the sale in June, it instead offered 5% of supply at a floor of $75 million and raised $4.2 million, with bids clearing at valuations of up to $106 million. Cap said 100% of the sale proceeds would go to the Stabledrop.
