Dropbox Scraps Unlimited Storage Plan Due to Resource-Intensive Crypto Mining

08/25 03:15

Dropbox has discontinued its unlimited storage plan due to some users utilizing the service for resource-intensive activities such as crypto mining. The company has replaced the plan with a metered storage plan, offering new users 15 terabytes of storage. Dropbox acknowledged that its previous plan would result in uneven usage levels, but it has seen a surge in some users consuming "thousands of times more storage than our genuine business customers." Other high-resource uses included reselling storage or multiple individuals pooling storage for personal use. Dropbox's decision follows similar policy changes by Microsoft and Google.
