Why did Binance choose to build its DEX on Binance Smart Chain?

Isn't it questionable why Binance opted to develop its decentralized exchange (DEX) on Binance Smart Chain? One could argue that this decision was driven by a desire for greater control and efficiency, potentially undermining the very principles of decentralization that DEXs are supposed to uphold.
