KOSPI Stock Index Halts Trading After 8% Crash as

Samsung and SK Hynix Sink South Korea's KOSPI Index triggered a circuit breaker after plunging 8%, halting stock and program trading for 20 minutes. The selloff erased about W396 trillion ($264 billion) in market value as Samsung Electronics fell 9% and SK Hynix dropped 11%. Investors reacted to concerns over Al infrastructure spending, Nvidia-related financing, and rising competition from China's semiconductor industry. The sharp decline also intensified selling in leveraged ETFs, marking the eighth circuit breaker of 2026.
