Are ‘busy’ Ethereum whales a sign of big players getting ready for a big move?

Whales have been busy since Ethereum fell below $2K.
The broader crypto market crashed following poor-than-expected macroeconomic data from the United States. Investors pulled significant capital out of risky assets and turned to capital preservation.

As a result, crypto assets, especially Ethereum, recorded notable losses across the board. The altcoin breached the $2k support again, hitting a low of $1956 before rebounding slightly. 

With ETH facing a greater risk of downside, it would seem that whales might be stepping in across Futures and Spot markets to take positions.
After Ethereum fell below $2k, some long holders were forced out of the market. Long position liquidations surpassed $56 million according to Coinglass data.
With longs facing liquidations, some whales flipped and turned to short positions, according to Onchain Lens. In fact, a whale deposited $2.18 million into Hyperliquid and opened an ETH short position with 10x leverage.

Interestingly, this was not an isolated case either as ETH saw a significant increase in short positions too. CoinGlass revealed that the altcoin’s Long/Short Ratio fell below 1, dropping to 0.96 at press time.

Bitcoin trades 20% below miner costs as fear builds, but is a bullish rotation starting?

Bitcoin looks stressed, but quiet accumulation may already be underway.
Recent on-chain conditions indicate that Bitcoin [BTC] has entered a period of structural market stress. Several cycle indicators are now compressing simultaneously as post-peak fragility continues to ripple through the ecosystem.

Within this environment, Entity-Adjusted NUPL has declined towards roughly 0.2, pushing sentiment into the historical fear zone. Previously in the cycle, the metric hovered near 0.6 while Bitcoin traded close to $110,000.

Since then, however, persistent selling pressure has compressed unrealized profits across the network.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at around $68,000–$69,000. At the same time, the price was sitting roughly 20–25% below the estimated average miner production cost

of $89,000–$91,000. Needless to say, this leaves a significant portion of the network operating underwater.

As margins tighten, many miners are liquidating reserves to maintain cash flow, while some firms increasingly explore AI data center infrastructure to diversify revenue. This may help them offset losses from mining operations.

Meanwhile, mining conditions have been mirroring this pressure. Network hashrate has fluctuated between 980 and 1,150 EH/s as operators optimize fleets following February’s margin compression and difficulty adjustments. In parallel, hashprice has been suppressed near $30–$32 per PH/s/day, leaving profitability for all but the most efficient miners near breakeven and reinforcing the market’s ongoing stress phase.

A prominent crypto founder says Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP all suffer quantum threat risks, but XRP may have an advantage over the others.

Discussions about the impact of quantum computing on blockchain security have picked up the pace as researchers assess whether future quantum machines could break the cryptographic systems used by major networks. 

After studying these potential risks, Versan Aljarrah, founder of Black Swan Capitalist, recently explained that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP all rely on cryptographic methods that could theoretically become vulnerable if quantum computing advances far enough.

While none of the networks have full protection against the growing quantum threat, Aljarrah suggested that XRP may have an advantage because of how the original architects structured the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Key Points

Versan Aljarrah argued that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP are not currently quantum-proof because they rely on elliptic curve cryptography, which a powerful quantum computer could theoretically break.

He warned that if quantum computers reach that capability, the impact could extend to systems like global banking networks, SWIFT, military encryption, and parts of the internet.

Aljarrah argued that updating the cryptography in Bitcoin or Ethereum would require complex upgrades or hard forks, which could destabilize their networks.

He explained that the XRP Ledger can upgrade its cryptography through validator consensus at the protocol level without disruptions and long debates, giving it an edge over Bitcoin and Ethereum.
