BNY is getting ready to delve further into digital assets. According to reports, the biggest custodian bank in the world intends to start offering cryptocurrency custody services in Abu Dhabi, initially concentrating on Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Institutional adoption intensifies

The decision has significant ramifications for institutional adoption throughout the cryptocurrency market, given that BNY is in charge of about $59 trillion in assets under custody. The timing is important. Digital assets have already seen significant growth in April and the first part of May.

While Ethereum stabilized following months of poor performance, Bitcoin vigorously recovered from earlier weakness and pushed back above important resistance zones close to the low $80,000 range. Infrastructure tokens, meme coins, and privacy assets all saw significant speculative inflows as risk appetite returned across all altcoins.

To improve tax efficiency and enhance the balance sheet, especially when selling assets turns out to be more accretive than raising new equity, management aims to use high-cost-basis Bitcoin for these sales. Notwithstanding the appearance of the pivot, the scope of the liquidation is rather small; with a huge treasury worth over USD 66.4 billion, the monthly revenues would amount to just 0.18% of the total stack, offering enough backup to support the policy for over 44 years.Investors were at first dubious; Strategy's shares fell by more than 4% after the Q1 earnings call as the market reacted to the changed reality. Bitcoin Core developers disclosed a high-severity bug that could allow miners to remotely crash some Bitcoin nodes.  Summary Bitcoin Core disclosed CVE-2024-52911, affecting versions before 29.0, with older nodes still exposed online. Miners needed costly proof-of-work blocks to trigger crashes, making real-world abuse historically unlikely for attackers. Cory Fields privately reported the bug in 2024, before Bitcoin Core 29.0 shipped patched software. The issue, tracked as CVE-2024-52911, affected Bitcoin Core versions after 0.14.0 and before 29.0. The bug was fixed in Bitcoin Core 29.0, which was released in April 2025.  Bitcoin Core made the issue public on May 5, 2026, after the final vulnerable 28.x release line reached end of life on April 19. Bitcoin Core said a specially crafted block could cause a node to access memory after that data had already been freed. In some cases, an invalid block could destroy cached data while another thread still tried to read it. Bitcoin Core said this could allow an attacker with enough proof-of-work to crash victim nodes. Telegram brings $TON back home

Telegram is bringing $TON, originally known as the Telegram Open Network, back home. Durov said the company would replace the $TON Foundation as the primary steward of the network.

The project was developed by the Durov brothers in 2018 but regulatory issues forced Telegram to stop working on it. $TON, then known as The Open Network, later continued under an independent community and the $TON Foundation.

The $TON Foundation has driven a number of key initiatives to expand the network’s ecosystem. Efforts have included deeper Telegram integration, the rollout of The Open League incentive program, enhanced developer resources through the $TON Builders Portal, and continued expansion into DeFi, payments, NFTs, and mini-app ecosystem.

The most prominent trend has been tap-to-earn, a format popularized in early 2024 by Notcoin. While Notcoin pioneered the mechanic, it sparked a wider “clicker” boom that has since grown into a more complex mini-app economy, with projects like Hamster Kombat and Blum expanding it into virtual management games and decentralized exchange platforms.

A key piece of financial infrastructure stitching tokenized assets to traditional banking got a real cross-border test this week.

Ondo Finance said Wednesday it had completed the first near-real-time cross-border redemption of a tokenized U.S. Treasury fund alongside JPMorgan's blockchain platform Kinexys, payments giant Mastercard, and Ripple.

The transaction settled in under five seconds on the $XRP Ledger and involved OUSG, Ondo's tokenized U.S. Treasury fund built for accredited investors and qualified purchasers.
