Bitcoin maintains its position above the important technical level of $74,000 and may continue to move towards higher levels in the near future, however, the market remains at risk of a correction. This was stated by Kirill Komalenkov, Director of Strategic Communications at Bitbanker, in an interview with Izvestia on August 24.
"Overall, my view on the positive prospects for the market remains cautious for now. Despite the current strong growth and improved technical picture, in terms of probabilities, I still allow for the scenario of a serious correction," the expert noted.
According to Komalenkov, bitcoin is trading around $77,300 during the day. After noticeable growth, the market has moved into a consolidation phase near local highs around $78,000. From a technical analysis standpoint, the situation with the main cryptocurrency has improved. Consolidation above the $74,000 level increases the likelihood of changing the previous downward structure, but it is not yet a final confirmation of a reversal.
Komalenkov named the $82,500 level as the next important level for bitcoin. According to him, updating the local high at this level would be a more serious signal of a change in market structure and could open the way for further growth. In the coming days, the expert believes, the main struggle will take place in the range of $76,000-78,000. If positions are maintained in the $74,000-76,000 zone and the $78,000 level is broken, the next short-term targets could be the $80,000-82,500 levels.
At the same time, Komalenkov warned that even after consolidation above $82,500, a correction cannot be ruled out. After strong growth, the market could first decline to around $68,000 to form liquidity and then continue its upward movement. The expert named the $98,000-102,000 range as the next significant resistance zone. If bitcoin manages to confidently pass this level and consolidate above it, the likelihood of updating historical highs will increase significantly.
Komalenkov also drew attention to the risks associated with the peculiarities of the modern cryptocurrency market. According to him, a significant portion of participants are now focused on obvious technical scenarios, and large liquidity can significantly influence price movements.
The expert added that despite the current positive momentum, the possibility of a deeper correction remains. In case of a sharp reversal downward, he views the $44,000-48,000 range as a potential zone for forming a long-term market bottom.
Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov stated on June 16 that non-qualified investors in Russia will soon be able to legally purchase bitcoin, ether, and popular stablecoins. Furthermore, he clarified that a limit of 300,000 rubles per year through one intermediary has been proposed for "non-qualified" investors.
