3月11日,据媒体报道,对冲基金Fir Tree正在大举做空USDT,理由是Fir Tree认为USDT的储备资产中包含240亿高收益商业票据,其中大部分与中国房地产开放商有关,存在违约风险,这可能导致其持有的资产储备大幅下降,从而引发USDT贬值。
Fir Tree从去年7月开始考虑做空USDT,并进行了包括聘请第三方专家在内的研究。同时,如果有足够的客户感兴趣,Fir Tree还考虑设立一个单独的基金来做空USDT。

40亿美元对冲基金做空Tether
Fir Tree是一家成立于1994年,总部位于纽约的私人投资公司。Fir Tree Capital Management是由Jeff Tannenbaum创立的、资产管理规模为40亿美元的对冲基金。

发行的目的是其能够使价格波动最小化,通过用与实际美元和其他资产(如公司债务)挂钩,以实现USDT代币的稳定性。
目前,USDT是最大的稳定币、是市值排名第三的加密货币,市值超800亿美元。
然而,关于Tether是否有储备支持800亿美元USDT代币的质疑一直存在。美国财政部、美联储和其他监管机构正敦促立法者让他们像对待银行一样监管稳定币发行人。
2021年10月,Tether曾因在美元储备上撒谎而被美国商品期货交易委员会罚款4100万美元。该监管机构在一份新闻稿中声称, Tether做出了“与美元Tether代币 (USDT) 稳定币有关的不真实或误导性陈述和重大事实遗漏”。Tether的姊妹公司Bitfinex也被罚款150万美元。
对于这种受到监管机构严格审查的稳定币,Fir Tree决定与加密货币经纪商Genesis Global Trading Inc.合作,通过借稳定币构建看跌期权,成立单独的基金来做空Tether。
