SafePal, a cryptocurrency wallet provider, has disclosed a data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 39,798 customers. The company announced the incident via its official X account, stating that names, email addresses, shipping addresses, phone numbers, and purchase histories were compromised. The breach affected customers who placed orders between March 2, 2025, and April 11, 2026.

What Caused the Breach?
SafePal attributed the breach to a code flaw in an order-tracking plugin. The company said it has since fixed the vulnerability and completed additional security measures to prevent similar incidents. While the exposed data includes sensitive personal details, SafePal emphasized that wallet systems, seed phrases, and private keys remain securely protected. This distinction is crucial for users concerned about the safety of their crypto assets

Crypto valuations could at least double as protocols increasingly use revenue to fund token buybacks and burns, according to Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan.

On Wednesday, Hougan said crypto outside of Bitcoin is becoming a revenue-driven market in which network activity feeds into native-token value. He said investors have not priced in that change, leaving some crypto assets undervalued.

Hougan pointed to Hyperliquid, Uniswap, Aave, Pump.fun and Lighter, protocols that use fees to repurchase or remove tokens from circulation. He said he expects decentralized finance (DeFi) applications and layer-1 networks to adopt similar revenue-capture mechanisms over the next 12 to 24 months.

Stronger links between protocol revenue and token value could give investors conventional valuation metrics, Hougan said, adding that token holders lack shareholders’ legal claims to cash flow and that community-set tokenomics can change.

DeFi protocols turn fees into token demand

Hyperliquid, the decentralized exchange that generated over $800 million in revenue last year, uses about 99% of this to buy and burn HYPE. On Aug. 6, Hyperliquid reported $169 million in second-quarter revenue and directed $141 million toward HYPE buybacks.

Uniswap also linked revenue to its token after its “UNIfication” overhaul approved the activation of protocol fees to fund UNI burns on Dec.22, 2025. Under the mechanism, collected fees can be claimed by burning UNI, linking protocol activity to reductions in the token’s supply.

Meanwhile, Aave DAO’s buyback program purchased more than 205,000 AAVE during its first 10 months. On June 25, Aave founder Stani Kulechov said the team was designing an automated, non-discretionary buyback mechanism.

Figure Technology Solutions reported $4.3 billion in consumer loan marketplace volume for the second quarter, up 132% from a year earlier, as its quarterly profit nearly tripled.

On Thursday, Figure said net income rose 192% year over year to $87 million, from about $30 million. Net revenue more than doubled to $226 million, while its net income margin increased 10.5 percentage points to 38.8%.

Figure’s marketplace volume includes home equity lines of credit, debt-service coverage ratio loans and personal loans processed through its loan origination system, along with third-party loans traded on Figure Connect, which accounted for $2.8 billion, or 65%, of the quarterly total.

Volume on the marketplace, which Figure launched in June 2024, increased 262% from the same period last year. The company also added 102 loan-origination partners during the quarter, bringing its total to 489.

CEO Michael Tannenbaum said weekly loan applications surpassed $1 billion in July. Figure expects consumer loan marketplace volume of between $4.8 billion and $5.2 billion in the third quarter.

Bernstein analysts predicted in May that Figure would post record second-quarter volume, citing live blockchain data that they said could increasingly allow investors to track the company’s lending activity in real time.

Broader institutional participation allows investors to obtain bitcoin exposure through custody platforms, lending services, and regulated financial products. Unlike conventional bank balances, bitcoin operates as decentralized digital money that enables users to store and transfer value without depending on a central issuer or traditional financial intermediary.

Stablecoins provide another channel by moving dollar-linked value through blockchain networks for payments, trading, remittances, and settlement. Their growing role as digital money and settlement instruments depends on reserve quality, redemption rights, regulatory compliance, and market confidence, leaving users exposed to risks that differ from insured bank deposits.
