Bitcoin surges above $71,000 as Trump postpones Iran strikes for 5 days

Crypto prices surged on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump said the nation would postpone attacks against Iran's power plants for five days, easing concerns the conflict would escalate.

Trump said in a Truth Social post that the two countries held "very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East."

The five-day hiatus doesn't end the war, however, as Iran continues to strike targets across the Gulf and Israel would also need to sign up.

Bitcoin BTC$68,358.29 rebounded almost 5% above $71,000 in the early morning U.S. hours after sinking below $68,000 overnight. Ether (ETH), DOGE$0.09306, solana (SOL and Chainlink LINK$8.6549 were up 5% over the past 24 hours as cryptocurrencies jumped across the board.

Gold erased almost all its earlier losses, now down just 1% on the day and rebounding to $4,440 per ounce. The U.S. dollar index, DXY, has slipped to 99.3.

Bond yields have declined globally, with the U.S. 10 year yield falling by 100 basis points to 4.3%.

Meanwhile, WTI crude is down 11% on the day, trading below $88 per barrel, while Brent crude has dropped 8% to around $100 per barrel. Tokenized Brent crude futures saw $62.4 million in liquidations on Hyperliquid.

CoinGlass data shows $62.41 million in liquidations on the XYZ:BRENTOIL contract over the past 24 hours, with $61.69 million of that hitting longs and just $717,000 from shorts.

Galaxy Digital (GLXY) rose 2% in pre-market trading, while Coinbase (COIN) and IREN (IREN) also added around 2% each. Strategy (MSTR), the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, gained more than 3%.

Despite the knee-jerk risk-on reaction in markets and the drop in oil prices, options tied to bitcoin continue to reflect a defensive bias.

Strategy returns to 'small' bitcoin purchases, adding $76.6 million in BTC last week

Michael Saylor's Strategy (MSTR) continued to add to bitcoin holdings last week, but at a vastly reduced pace from recent previous acquisitions.

The leading bitcoin treasury company last week added 1,031 bitcoin for a total cost of $76.6 million, or $74,326 per coin.

Strategy’s total holdings now stand at 762,099 BTC, acquired for approximately $57.69 billion, or an average price of $75,694 each.

The new buys were entirely funded via the sales of common stock, according to a Monday filing.

Crypto detective ZachXBT has uncovered yet another cryptocurrency scam.

According to ZachXBT, they uncovered a coordinated network of more than 10 X accounts that used a fabricated geopolitical panic over a potential US-Iran war to manipulate cryptocurrencies, thereby achieving six-figure profits.

The ongoing war between the US and Iran in the Middle East, which has been going on for weeks, has undoubtedly been the most talked-about topic on social media since it began, and some are exploiting this attention to defraud investors.

ZachXBT also explained the method used by these scam accounts. According to ZachXBT, these individuals first buy accounts that already have followers. Then, they make their accounts resemble popular news accounts with a large number of followers.

The site then attempts to generate engagement by exaggerating news, whether real or fake. They support this by using purchased accounts to retweet and like the posts. The goal is to ensure that tweets containing fake or real information reach a wider audience and increase engagement more quickly.

Accounts that increase their follower count in this way then launch cryptocurrency scams and share posts about them.

ZachXBT stated that these accounts recommended certain tokens in their posts, and after a certain number of people acquired the tokens, a “rug pull” occurred, and the money was withdrawn. Following the sharp drop in the token’s value, no further posts were made.

Then the username is changed.

ZachXBT recently stated that more than 10 X accounts shared the memecoin ORAMAMA and rug-pull it during February.

In his latest update, ZachXBT stated that all 11 accounts mentioned in his exposé have blocked him.
