KAITO slides 11% - Will the 32.6M token unlock trigger more losses? This KAITO decline is a whale-driven sell-off, but only a portion of their holdings are being sold.

Kaito [KAITO] has been declining over the past few days. The asset has lost roughly 57% of its accumulated gains over the past week, a trend it has continued over the past day as it lost another 11% as of writing.

Notably, this downward performance, which has lasted more than a week, has been whale-driven. The whale retail delta remained around 0.242 on the chart, as whales possibly consider the asset overvalued and are selling it until it finds fair value.

A token unlock, a periodic event where more of an asset's supply is released to the market to facilitate certain activities, including development and community benefits, is set to happen for Kaito.

The next token unlock is scheduled for the 20th of August, with 32.6 million KAITO tokens set to be released to the market, representing 3.26% of the token's total supply.

Usually, when demand remains limited following an asset's token unlock, its price tends to decline notably. A similar scenario could be the case for KAITO, especially as sentiment across the crypto market remains broadly bearish.

The assumption is that investors are selling their KAITO holdings ahead of the unlock to avoid absorbing larger losses after the unlock. The token holders chart has remained largely flat over the past week, implying that few new holders have entered the market to purchase KAITO.

Momentum has improved, with RSI at 57.76 and the Ultimate Oscillator at 56.13, both above the neutral 50 mark. STOCH is much stronger at 85.51, placing short-term momentum near overbought territory, but MACD at -99 keeps the broader momentum picture cautious.

Key Factors Pushing the Bitcoin Price Presently

Bitcoin’s 1.13% gain is part of a wider market move, with total crypto market capitalization up 0.55% to $2.18 trillion. 

Derivatives activity is also adding volatility, with Bitcoin liquidations rising 1,208% in 24 hours and open interest expanding 5.58%, creating conditions for larger short-term price swings.

The regulatory picture is less supportive, as Galaxy Digital cut its estimated odds of the CLARITY Act passing in 2026 from 75% to 10%. 

The White House meeting involving President Trump, SEC Chair Paul Atkins and crypto executives on Wednesday could therefore become important for BTC sentiment.

The firm said that while Bitcoin ETFs still attract larger absolute dollar amounts, Ethereum ETFs are gaining ground when measured against fund size, signaling a potential shift in institutional investor sentiment.

Weekly Inflow Data Highlights Growing $ETH DemandDWF Labs reported that spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs combined saw $1.1 billion in net inflows over the past week, the largest weekly total since April 13. Bitcoin ETFs accounted for $865 million of that figure, while Ethereum ETFs drew $243 million. Although Bitcoin’s absolute inflows remain dominant, the relative performance tells a different story.In June, Ethereum ETFs posted a net outflow rate of -4.65% relative to fund size, compared to Bitcoin’s -8.09%. By July, the trend reversed sharply, with Ethereum ETFs achieving a +3.19% net inflow rate, far exceeding Bitcoin’s +0.34%. These figures suggest that institutional allocators are increasingly rebalancing their portfolios toward Ethereum, despite its smaller overall market share.
