Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) has announced that it plans to spend $250 billion building US infrastructure in the next 18 months. The bank plans to focus on data centers, chips and power generation.

The plan lands as a major boost for stakeholders of the AI and computing buildout, even as data centers ramp up pressure on the electrical grid.
The bank has named the program its Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative, in time for the 250th anniversary of America. It will run from January 1, 2026, to July 4, 2027. It will not be a single fund though; rather, the figure is made up of investing, eligible lending, capital market deals, and advisory work the bank will handle over the 18-month period.

This is not too dissimilar from the methodology used when the bank set up a $1.5 trillion, 10-year sustainable finance goal.

The spending will be divided into 3 parts: digital infrastructure, energy and power and core infrastructure.

Digital infrastructure includes data centers, computing hardware, chips, telecommunications, and semiconductors.

Energy and power is made up of conventional and renewable generation, storage, and distribution.

Core infrastructure takes care of transportation, grid optimization, water systems, and critical minerals and mining.

For those in the crypto and tech world, the digital infrastructure section catches the eye, especially as the US is building AI data centers at an astronomical pace and straining power grids in the process.

The increased demand for computing power, electricity, and semiconductors is the main catalyst behind the influx of capital from banks.

Karen Fang, who serves as Bank of America’s global head of infrastructure and sustainable finance and co-head of global capital solutions, stated succinctly that “Old infrastructure has to be modernized.”

Mantle price has climbed about 13% over the past seven days to trade near $0.46 on August 13, extending its recovery from the lows recorded earlier this month.



According to CoinGecko data, $MNT was trading around $0.46 at the time of writing, up about 5.5% over the previous 24 hours and 13.2% over seven days.

$MNT has risen from around $0.40 earlier this week, reaching nearly $0.47 during trading on August 13.

The rally has developed alongside renewed attention on Mantle’s real-world asset strategy, which has increasingly focused on bringing tokenized financial products and capital market assets onchain.

The most consequential crypto launch of 2026 happened with almost no ceremony. On May 13, Charles Schwab began rolling out spot trading in bitcoin and ether to retail clients, inside the half-year window CEO Rick Wurster had promised, at a flat 75 basis points per trade, custodied at Schwab's own bank with Paxos providing sub-custody and execution. By the July earnings call the rollout was "going as planned", a crypto transfers pilot was starting, and Schwab had taken an equity stake in Paxos. The firm behind it reported $13.1 trillion in client assets and 39.8 million brokerage accounts in the same release.

Crypto's retail distribution question, who onboards the next hundred million American holders, was just answered by the largest pool of retail wealth in the country, quietly, mid-drawdown, at a price that undercuts the industry that built the asset class.

The machine attached to that answer is worth pausing on. Schwab's second quarter set records across the franchise: $7.1 billion of revenue, up 21%, 11.9 million daily average trades, up 57%, and $120 billion of core net new assets in the quarter. Wurster attributes the trading surge to young investors and AI-driven engagement he expects to persist. That is the funnel crypto now sits inside: a firm gathering more net new money in one quarter than the entire spot bitcoin ETF complex holds.
