In the previous month, the economy lost 24,800 jobs, and the jobless rate was at a 16-month low of 6.5%.“No sense sugar-coating this one, this is simply a brutal result,” Doug Porter, chief economist with BMO Capital Markets, wrote in a note. “The underlying story so far in 2026 is one of weakness…. And now, the economy has to contend with higher energy costs flowing from the Iran conflict.”On the bright side, there were some positive notes from Canada’s latest jobs report. For example, the average hourly wage of permanent employees grows 4.2%. Furthermore, Canada and the United States are engaged in bilateral talks to reduce the impact of tariffs and for the review of a three-nation free trade pact also involving Mexico before July 1. Should these talks go well and the pact become official, the negative impact felt on Canada’s economy could be eased.

Senate leader says Clarity Act unlikely to advance before April: report
U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he does not expect the Clarity Act to clear the Senate Banking Committee before April, according to Punchbowl News.

Discussions around the bill remain in deadlock as the crypto and banking sectors have yet to reach a compromise on the issue of stablecoin yield.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune signaled that a key cryptocurrency market structure bill could face further delays, suggesting lawmakers may need more time to resolve outstanding issues.

According to a Punchbowl report cited by journalist Eleanor Terrett on X, Thune said that he does not expect the crypto market structure bill — also known as the Clarity Act — to clear the Senate Banking Committee before April.

"Market structure is a bill that's, I'm hoping, going to come out of the Banking Committee soon, probably not before, I would say, the April time period," said Thune, per the report. The Block has reached out to Thune for further comment.

The Clarity Act is designed to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets in the U.S., clarifying oversight of crypto markets and participants. The House of Representatives has already advanced the legislation, while discussions continue in the Senate.

Also on Thursday, the Senate passed a comprehensive housing bill featuring a provision that prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC. The legislation now moves to the House for further debate and voting.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are prioritizing President Donald Trump's SAVE America Act, which Thune said the Senate is set to vote on next week, CNBC . The bill would require Americans to provide documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote.

US Court Rejects Custodia Bank Bid in Fight With the Federal Reserve

A US appeals court has rejected crypto-focused Custodia Bank’s request to reopen its legal fight with the Federal Reserve over access to the US banking system.

On March 13, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals voted 7–3 against rehearing the case. That means an earlier October ruling remains in place. The court had previously decided that Federal Reserve banks can choose whether to give an institution access to a key banking account.

Those accounts are known as “master accounts.” They allow banks to connect directly to the Federal Reserve’s payment system. Without one, a bank must rely on another bank to move money through the system.

Accordingly, Litecoin founder Charlie Lee claimed in a recent interview that anonymous creator Satoshi’s $BTC would be the first target of quantum attacks.

Lee stated that while Satoshi’s identity remains unknown, the more than one million $BTC he is believed to hold are most vulnerable to such attacks because they are not properly protected.

Lee added that if quantum computing becomes a reality, Satoshi’s Bitcoins would likely be among the first to be hacked.

Lee stated that Satoshi is estimated to own approximately 1.1 million $BTC, and that these $BTC are stored in P2PK addresses, which could make them more vulnerable to quantum attacks.

However, Lee added that current quantum computing technology is still significantly insufficient to break Bitcoin’s encryption.

Quantum computing company PsiQuantum has taken quantum concerns to another level with its latest move.

PsiQuantum has taken another step closer to its goal of building the world’s first usable quantum computer. The company announced that it has begun construction of a 1 million qubit quantum facility that scientists say is powerful enough to crack Bitcoin’s encryption.

DOJ and Europol take down SocksEscort network tied to crypto fraud

US and European authorities said Thursday they had disrupted SocksEscort, a malicious proxy service used by cybercriminals to hide their identities while carrying out fraud, including cryptocurrency account takeovers.

The DOJ said the service compromised at least 369,000 routers and other internet-connected devices in 163 countries, giving cybercriminals control over proxies that hid their true IP addresses.

The platform reportedly enabled crimes, including bank fraud and cryptocurrency account takeovers, since 2020. In one case cited by prosecutors, a victim in New York lost roughly $1 million in cryptocurrency.

Authorities said they seized 34 domains, disrupted about two dozen servers across seven countries and froze about $3.5 million in cryptocurrency linked to the operation.

The network received at least $5.7 million from users

To access the proxy service, customers used a payment platform that allowed them to purchase it anonymously with cryptocurrency, according to a statement by Europol.

Investigators estimate that SocksEscort received at least 5 million euros ($5.7 million) from its users.

“Proxy services like ‘SocksEscort’ provide criminals with the digital cover they need to launch attacks, distribute illegal content and evade detection,” Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle said
