44% of Bitcoin Investor Positions Are in the Red: How Will We Know When the Bear Market Is Over?


The rapid increase in the loss-making supply of Bitcoin ($BTC) is raising new concerns about market dynamics. According to recent data shared by the on-chain analytics platform Glassnode, approximately 44% of the circulating Bitcoin supply is currently in the loss zone.

Bitcoin is trading at around $66,450, down approximately 47% from its peak of $126,000 recorded in October 2025. This decline has resulted in investors facing a total of approximately $598.7 billion in unrealized losses. According to the data, approximately 8.8 million $BTC are in a loss position.

Glassnode assesses the current situation as similar to the market structure in the second quarter of 2022. According to the company, offsetting losses of this magnitude typically requires a transfer of assets from investors in losses to new buyers entering the market at lower price levels.

Long-term investors (those holding for more than 155 days) have seen their daily realized losses rise to $200 million. Glassnode interprets this as “confirmation of active stop-loss sales.” According to their analysis, a drop in this figure below $25 million per day would be considered a significant signal indicating that selling pressure has subsided, a historical indicator preceding the formation of bottoms.

On the other hand, it is noteworthy that the spot price of Bitcoin remains below $83,408, the average cost level for US spot Bitcoin ETF investors. This indicates that ETF investors are under increasing pressure. Indeed, in the week ending March 27, there was a net outflow of over $194 million from global Bitcoin investment products.

Are Cracking as Public Companies Turn into BTC Sellers


A wave of bitcoin selling from public companies and sovereign entities is adding pressure to the bitcoin market, as firms that once called themselves long-term holders sit on long-term losses and move to shore up balance sheets, repay debt, and fund strategic pivots.

Companies including Riot Platforms, Genius Group, and Nakamoto Holdings have all reduced their bitcoin holdings this week, citing liquidity needs and operational priorities.

The shift marks a drastic change from the accumulation trend that defined the past two years, when firms raced to build $BTC treasuries during a period of rising prices.

Bitcoin HODL-ish

Empery Digital (EMPD) said it sold 370 $BTC at an average price of $66,632, generating $24.7 million in proceeds. The company used part of the funds to repay its term loan and released about 1,800 $BTC that had been held as collateral.

Following the sale, Empery holds 2,989 $BTC, down from a peak position of about 4,000 $BTC built after it began accumulating in July 2025. Its shares have fallen 75% from a 2025 high of $15.80.

Genius Group (GNS), an AI-focused education company that once held as much as 440 $BTC, has exited its $BTC position. The firm sold its remaining 84 $BTC to repay $8.5 million in debt, completing a series of reductions that began earlier this year.

The company said it may rebuild its bitcoin treasury when market conditions improve.

Riot Platforms (RIOT), one of the largest publicly traded bitcoin miners in the U.S., has also been selling. Blockchain data tracked by Lookonchain indicates the company moved 500 $BTC, worth about $34 million, to an exchange-linked address, suggesting a sale. This movement took place on April 1.

According to the recent Bitcoin news, Blocktrainer founder Roman Reher announced plans to operate as a publicly traded entity focused solely on BTC treasury. “With more and more publicly traded companies having taken this path in recent months, it is now time for the birth of a new Bitcoin accumulation machine,” Reher stated.

The company isn’t shy about its ambitions as they want to hit 1 million BTC by 2030 and aims to challenge MicroStrategy’s lead. Their plan is to use capital markets and leverage to beat Bitcoin’s performance.

“Bitcoin is our hurdle rate. This means we measure our performance against BTC – with the goal of generating outperformance always and everywhere,” Reher said. He even argued that this kind of approach is what “justifies a high company valuation.”

They have also introduced performance metrics, like Bitcoin Return Rate (BRR), BTC Gain, and BTC Torque, to track efficiency in increasing the value of Bitcoin per share. On top of that, Blocktrainer expects its multiple net asset value (mNAV) to reach 10x under its strategy.

To get listed, they’re working on a reverse merger with Windeln.AI, a company focused on AI. Once that’s done, the new company will trade under the ticker WNDLN. For funding, they’re planning everything from common shares to preferred equity to even “diaper bonds” to help them stack more Bitcoin.

One attention-grabbing piece: they’re offering a perpetual preferred share, ticker MAUL, that claims a 21% monthly dividend yield. The company says this share will help create smart leverage and connect the massive $300 trillion bond market to Bitcoin.
