The underperformance is puzzling because $XRP exchange-traded funds still attracted net investor capital for a fourth consecutive week. The inflows, however, have slowed sharply, collapsing roughly 93% week-over-week to around $1 million, according to data source SoSoValue. Meanwhile, bitcoin and ether funds pulled in hundreds of millions.

According to the BIP-110 monitor, the enforcing (BIP-110 validating) branch has stalled at block 961,633 after producing only two blocks, while the non-enforcing branch has advanced to block 961,721—pushing the gap to 88 blocks.

As the disagreement persists through the period where difficulty adjustments cannot yet fully catch up, the episode is again highlighting how “mandatory signaling” mechanics can turn a soft-proposal into an operational contest between node policies and mining output.

BIP-110 nodes reject blocks that do not signal via version bit 4, while ordinary Bitcoin nodes accept both signaling and non-signaling blocks—enabling two simultaneous histories.

Mandatory signaling began at block 961,632, following a signaling rate of only 2.53% (51 out of 2,016 blocks) in the prior window.

Ocean records attribute the enforcing branch’s first two blocks to a pseudonymous mining group named Roughnecks using Ocean’s DATUM mining protocol.

Mandatory signaling is scheduled to continue through block 963,647, and enforcing nodes must mine through the remainder of the 2,016-block adjustment period before difficulty can respond.

A split driven by node policy and signaling

The divergence started right as BIP-110 moved into mandatory signaling. The BIP-110 monitor reported the latest state as of 10:19 am UTC, showing the enforcing branch’s last block at 961,633—about 12 hours after the branch produced its two-block output.

In the window immediately before mandatory signaling, only 51 of the previous 2,016 blocks signaled support for BIP-110. The 2.53% figure matters because it reflects how limited

Grayscale withdrew registration statements for three planned U.S. altcoin exchange traded products on Aug. 7, ending the current registration process for its Cardano, Hedera and Polkadot funds.

SEC records show the three Form RW submissions were accepted between 4:33:37 p.m. and 4:36:47 p.m. ET, a span of exactly 190 seconds.

The filings are withdrawal requests, not SEC rejections. Grayscale said it no longer intends to proceed with the planned distribution of shares under those registration statements. It also confirmed that none had become effective and that no securities had been issued or sold.

A bitcoin miner chose not to back BIP-110 on Sunday, using a tool from its own mining pool that let it decide what went into the block rather than leaving that to the pool.

Simple Mining said it produced block 961,634 on the main chain, two blocks past the point where BIP-110 supporters broke away.The choice is notable because Ocean, the pool it mines with, had switched miners to signal for BIP-110 by default in July and accounted for nearly all of the proposal's small amount of mining support before the split.

BIP-110, short for Bitcoin Improvement Proposal-110, is a move to stop people storing pictures, text and other non-financial data inside bitcoin transactions for a year.

The privacy coin experiences a shift in shielded supply to the Ironwood pool, from the old Orchard pool amid easing retail demand in Zcash futures. The technical outlook for ZEC is mixed, as the price hovers above the 50-day and 100-day EMAs at $490 and $469, respectively, yet lacks bullish momentum. 
Zcash developers discovered a four-year-old vulnerability in late May that could allow the minting of counterfeit coins, raising security concerns among privacy coin users. ZEC provides a store of value for users prioritizing financial privacy through its shielded transaction features, which conceal transaction data. However, the counterfeit vulnerability could have destroyed its store of value by minting a fake supply of ZEC tokens. 

To patch the issue, Zcash developers deployed an emergency hard fork on June 3, followed by the major Ironwood network upgrade in late July 2026. 

Zkp.baby data shows the migration from Orchard to the Ironwood pool in progress. Orchard pool is down nearly 17% over the last 24 hours to 1.49 million ZEC, while the Ironwood pool is up 15% to 2.30 million ZEC in the same time period. In addition, the total shielded supply at 4.36 million ZEC is holding steady after a V-shaped rebound from the August 1 low of 3.65 million ZEC, indicating a mild recovery in the privacy coin adoption.
