Federal Police in Brazil has taken action against a high-profile drug trafficking ring that used cryptocurrency to launder the funds obtained for its narcotics export activity to Europe.

On Thursday, the Brazilian federal Police announced the results of Operation Commodity, which terminated the activities of a group that used the port of Rio de Janeiro to smuggle cocaine hidden in coffee, cement, and mortar shipments that were mainly sent to Europe, using a logistics network spanning South America, Europe, and Asia.

Investigations hint at over 6.5 tons of cocaine processed by the group since 2021 to various European countries, including France, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, and Spain.

During the operation, which encompassed actions in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, and Espírito Santo, 13 preventive arrests and 44 search-and-seizures were executed, with courts ordering the seizure of assets and freezing of property up to 1 billion reais (nearly $196 million). A shootout erupted in one of these locations, with a suspect dying of gunshot wounds as he resisted.

随着美国参议院继续审议 CLARITY Act，Ripple 高层再次加大对该法案的支持力度，并认为建立联邦层面的加密货币监管框架，将有助于加强消费者保护，同时为企业提供更加明确的监管标准。

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse 将 CLARITY Act 描述为美国建立清晰数字资产监管框架的重要机会。他表示，监管明确性将使企业和用户受益，并帮助立法者塑造美国加密市场的未来。

7月22日，Garlinghouse 转发并支持了 Ripple 首席法务官 Stu Alderoty 的观点。Alderoty 表示，CLARITY Act 是一项以消费者保护为核心的法案，其中包括：

更严格的**反洗钱（AML）**要求；

为执法机构提供更强的执法工具；

赋予各州总检察长更多监管权限。


对此，Garlinghouse 表示：

与此同时，Garlinghouse 继续推动该法案，并扩大Ripple在华盛顿的倡导行动，包括开展更广泛的 CLARITY Act 宣传活动以及面向立法者的公共沟通。此外，Ripple还通过 Ripple CLARITY Act Truck Campaign 宣传活动，提高社会各界对该法案的关注。

另一方面，美国怀俄明州共和党参议员 Cynthia Lummis 也持续支持 CLARITY Act。她表示，该法案旨在：

加强消费者保护；

提升执法机构的监管能力；

明确联邦监管机构之间的职责分工。


Lummis强调，法案包含反洗钱要求、执法工具以及更完善的市场监管框架，有助于为合法的数字资产企业提供更加明确的运营规则，同时增强监管机构打击违法行为的能力。

The meeting comes amid growing uncertainty about tech sector valuations, AI infrastructure spending, and economic growth trajectory amid a backdrop of inflationary pressures.

The market “feels very frothy,” Kristina Hooper, chief market strategist at Man Group, told Reuters. “Investors are, to a certain extent, walking on eggshells, and they’re more likely to react negatively to any signs of imperfection.”

Odds of rates remaining the same have fallen to 63.7% on the CME Fed watch tool, which now predicts a 36.3% chance of an increase.

July’s PCE inflation data is due on Thursday, followed by the Michigan Consumer Sentiment data and Inflation Expectations data on Friday.
