 Crypto to SpaceX, Apple in One Step: Uphold Adds 4,000+ Stocks and ETFs

Crypto Can Now Fund the Next Stock Trade Turning bitcoin into a stock investment has traditionally required several moves: sell the crypto, transfer the cash to a brokerage, and place a separate order. That obstacle just became smaller for eligible U.S. investors.

More than 4,000 U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are now available through Uphold, allowing customers to sell supported cryptocurrencies and buy equities without leaving the app. Uphold highlighted Apple and SpaceX as examples in a post on X, while its launch announcement showed how bitcoin could fund a Berkshire Hathaway purchase.

"People want one app for all of their investing - crypto included," Nancy Beaton, president of Uphold U.S., said. "Equities on Uphold is designed to make that real." The executive added:

"Uphold customers can now sell bitcoin to buy Berkshire Hathaway shares in a single step on the app - with no clunky currency conversions and without needing to transfer funds between stablecoins or cash balances."

The transaction is not a direct exchange of bitcoin for stock. Behind the one-step interface, Uphold sells the selected cryptocurrency for U.S. dollars before using the proceeds to purchase the security.

Franklin Templeton Exec Calls Agentic Al Crypto's 'Killer Use Case' as ETH Nears $2K

The Head of Digital Assets and Innovation for a $2 trillion asset manager "just said to buy $ETH," commented former BlackRock VP and host of Milk Road Daily, John Gillen, on Tuesday. His statement came in response to a lengthy post on X from Franklin's Sandy Kaul on the use cases for crypto in agentic Al payments.

Most investors buy shares of Al-aligned companies to capture the growth opportunity today, he said. US stock markets have boomed with the S&P 500 climbing 20% over the past year to an all-time high in early June, largely driven by tech and Al stocks.

However, the same playbook may not work for agentic Al, he said.

Ethereum is the Al Bet

Al agents can independently initiate, track, and fulfill transactions, and estimates suggest agentic commerce could reach $3 to $5 trillion by 2030.

Legacy payment rails with high fees and slow transaction times do not work for micropayments. Additionally, Al agents cannot open bank accounts or access financial services, which have rafts of strict KYC requirements.

Therefore, it is likely that Al agents will use decentralized blockchains to transact, and Ethereum and its layer-2 networks are the current industry standard with the largest developer base and institutional support.
