Polygon Labs eliminated a portion of its workforce this week as the firm reshapes itself around a payments-focused business model rather than its earlier identity as a blockchain foundation.

CEO Marc Boiron disclosed the restructuring in a post on X, tying the timing to Polygon Labs’ pending purchase of Coinme. Polygon Labs is nearing completion of its acquisition of crypto firm Coinme now, according to Boiron, with plans to fold the acquired team directly into the broader organization once the deal closes.

Boiron framed the merger and the accompanying layoffs as part of one connected effort: repositioning Polygon Labs to reach profitability by 2027.
CEO Marc Boiron says the cuts reflect strategy shifts, not employee performance. In his statement, he drew a sharp distinction between how a blockchain foundation functions internally versus how a payments-focused company needs to operate, arguing the shift demands different staffing and organizational structure altogether, not simply a different product roadmap.

Affected staff will receive severance pay plus career placement support as well, Boiron confirmed, adding that he personally intends to vouch for departing employees to other companies looking to hire.

Boiron pointed to underlying business strength as the reason for acting now rather than later. Boiron says both stablecoin volume and customer demand are hitting record highs, and he noted that Polygon’s onchain payments product launched faster than the team had anticipated.

He acknowledged the irony directly in his post, noting that many of the employees departing were the same people responsible for building that momentum in the first place.

Data from TradingView showed $BTC/USD circling $64,500, down 1.5% from its three-week highs seen the day prior.These had accompanied two straight days of lower-than-expected US inflation data, with both the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) dropping in June.

While crypto and equities initially gained, tech stocks came under pressure on Thursday, with the closely-watched Micron Technologies down 15%.

“Micron is now down over -30% since its June 22nd record high,” trading resource The Kobeissi Letter commented in a response on X.Kobeissi additionally noted profit-taking in action by retail tech-stock investors, with sales of Tesla and Apple hitting $200 million over the past two weeks.

“Meanwhile, the total retail turnover in single stocks rose to a record $370 billion, up from $220 billion at the start of 2026,” it continued.

For the current macro-driven rally to turn into a bull rally, investor conviction will be the key factor.

From the macro perspective, Bitcoin’s reclaim of the $65k level came alongside a softer-than-expected CPI report, signaling that inflation is cooling.

Historically, this type of macro relief has acted as a bullish catalyst, as investors, particularly long-term holders, begin to position for easier monetary conditions. With CPI coming in weaker, Bitcoin’s rally clearly highlighted this shift in market sentiment.

However, on-chain data suggests that long-term holders are still struggling to maintain their conviction. As BTC pushes toward $66k, LTH realized loss volume is rising sharply.

This indicates that cycle-top buyers are using the relief rally as an exit opportunity, selling into strength instead of waiting for a full recovery.

Adding to the pressure, Glassnode recently highlighted another key signal.

According to the report, short-term holders who bought near the recent lows are now taking profit at volumes last seen around the May peak.

Together, these two forces are creating resistance for Bitcoin’s rally: Cycle-top buyers are reducing losses, while local-bottom buyers are locking in gains. With both groups selling into the same recovery, Bitcoin clearly needs stronger demand to absorb the supply.

What’s more, rising speculative liquidity around these key zones is fueling more friction for the rally. In short, it looks like Bitcoin [BTC] is entering a high-stakes setup at a time when conviction is starting to fade.

Naturally, the question becomes: Is BTC’s $65k breakout the start of a bull trend, or just another relief rally?

Ondo Debuts First DTC-Backed Tokenized Stocks

Ondo’s tokenized stocks are backed by DTC Tokenized Entitlements to securities held at The Depository Trust Company (DTC). The design ties on-chain tokens directly to shares inside Wall Street’s core custody system.

The company called it a first for tokenized equities. The tokens represent Circle (CRCL) stock and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) on-chain. Ondo issues them as CRCLon and SPYon, each fully backed by the underlying security.

“Under this model, DTC tokenized entitlements to DTC-held securities are generated through the DTCC Tokenization Service, and the DTC Tokenized Entitlements associated with CRCL and SPY serve as digital twins of the securities underlying existing CRCLon and SPYon tokens (Ondo’s tokenized versions of the stocks),” the team explained.

Ondo is connected to the DTC participant network through Alpaca Markets. The underlying shares stay within DTC custody throughout the process, according to the firm.

“Ondo joins more than a dozen leading TradFi and DeFi firms — including BlackRock, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq, and NYSE — participating in DTCC’s largest tokenization initiative to date, representing an important step toward the broader adoption of tokenized securities,”
