Solana’s Alpenglow bug hunt charges researchers 0.5 SOL to report flaws
Anza is charging security researchers a non-refundable 0.5 $SOL to file each Alpenglow finding before the competition closes at 16:00 UTC on Aug. 19.

The rules require every finding to pass through a designated portal, which burns the fee and creates one confidential GitHub Security Advisory. Reports sent through another channel are ineligible.

The target is consequential. SIMD-0326 proposes Alpenglow as a backwards-incompatible replacement for Solana’s current Proof-of-History and TowerBFT consensus protocol. Anza has put the new consensus components, their validator integrations and the migration path inside the bounty’s temporary scope.

Researchers pay the filing cost before Anza determines validity, severity, duplication or reward. They also work against a moving version of Agave master. Each report must identify the commit where the flaw appeared, reproduce the issue there and arrive while the bug remains unfixed on master.

A proof-of-concept requirement and the filing burn can reduce placeholder submissions. They can also price out a valid finding whose impact or priority is uncertain. The published rules contain no measure of participation or report quality that would settle the tradeoff.

Researchers pay before eligibility is settled

The competition overview says Alpenglow was excluded from Agave’s standing bounty during development, monorepo migration and internal-audit phases. The two-week competition opens an enumerated set of Alpenglow code that includes the Votor voting engine, vote and certificate messages, BLS signature and certificate verification, the TowerBFT migration path and specified validator integration surfaces.

Bitcoin started the business week near $63,500 after a quiet weekend, while investors turned toward Federal Reserve minutes and new US economic data. JPMorgan also expanded institutional crypto lending by allowing Bitcoin and Ethereum to back dollar-denominated loans.

The Federal Reserve kept rates unchanged for a fifth straight meeting in July, although three policymakers favored an increase. This split now raises interest in the meeting minutes. Investors will look for details on inflation concerns and the likelihood that more officials could support higher rates. Tighter policy expectations often pressure cryptocurrencies and other risk assets.

Recent data have complicated that outlook. US retail sales fell 0.6% in July, marking the first decline in nine months. Meanwhile, unemployment and inflation readings reduced expectations for a September increase. What could shift Bitcoin more this week: a stronger hawkish signal from the Fed or evidence that the US economy is losing momentum?

Thursday will bring weekly initial jobless claims and the August Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index. The releases could provide another view of labor conditions and economic activity. The remaining US calendar includes August S&P Global manufacturing and services PMI readings, which are expected to have limited impact on crypto markets.

Japan's Metaplanet launching U.S. bitcoin treasury company through $135 million nanocap deal

Japanese bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet (3350) is preparing to take a 95.7% stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise (SLE) through a $134.6 million investment that would turn the gaming-media firm into its U.S. bitcoin treasury platform.

Metaplanet would contribute 2,100 bitcoin, valued at $132.1 million, and $2.5 million in cash for 44.9 million common shares priced at $3 each, preferred stock and warrants, the companies said.

Super League, which had a market value of roughly $5 million at Monday’s close, would be renamed Superplanet and trade under the ticker SUPA.

SLE shares are trading at $5.20, up more than 70%.

The deal follows the collapse of the 2025 digital-asset treasury boom, which left most major bitcoin-holding companies trading below the value of their holdings. Falling stock prices and debt obligations have since pushed some firms to sell bitcoin, repay debt or pivot away from the strategy altogether.

Existing Super League holders would own about 4.3% of the company after closing. Metaplanet would also receive 10-year warrants covering as many as 381 million additional shares at exercise prices ranging from $3 to $33.50.

Metaplanet is using its bitcoin holdings for the initial investment. “We seeded this investment with less than 5% of our Bitcoin, with the ability to contribute much more as the platform grows,” CEO Simon Gerovich said on X.

The company would have the right to invest an additional $210 million through non-convertible preferred stock over the next 24 months. Superplanet plans to use its bitcoin as collateral for future preferred stock offerings, with operating income and other cash flows available to cover dividends.
