SecondFi to shut down after $2.4 million ADA wallet theft
Cardano wallet SecondFi is winding down after attackers exploited a flaw in its transaction signing software to steal 16.1 million $ADA, worth roughly $2.4 million, from 374 wallets.

The service, which replaced EMURGO’s Yoroi wallet, said it will not resume normal operations despite patching the vulnerability.and at the time securing 129 million $ADA before attackers could reach the funds.

The flaw allowed attackers to derive private key material from transaction data visible on the Cardano blockchain, SecondFi said. The Cardano network itself was not compromised, and hardware wallet users were not affected.

Groom Lake, the blockchain intelligence firm hired by EMURGO, found that the main attacker was sophisticated and well-funded. Some indicators point to North Korea’s Lazarus Group, though no attribution has been confirmed, the firm said.
A separate attacker targeted another set of wallets during the same period.

SecondFi expects to release wallet export tools in early August and a zero-knowledge recovery portal later that month. EMURGO has funded an asset recovery wallet, but no firm distribution date has been given.

Usually, a major transfer from long-term holders is closely watched by market players. Despite the attention, it seems the transfer had no negative impact on Bitcoin's price action.

On the contrary, BTC has continued with its bullish streak, rising to a monthly high of $66,314 before a slight pullback. At press time, Bitcoin was trading around $66,195, after rising by 3.02% on the daily charts.

With BTC holding within an uptrend since $62k a day ago, the momentum has strengthened extensively. The Stochastic Momentum Index (SMI) hiked to 67 after forming a bullish crossover two days ago.

At these levels, the current trend is relatively strong. Furthermore, the Squeeze Momentum Indicator has held and remained positive over the past week, reflecting strengthening momentum.

Often, when these indicators move in such a manner, the prevailing trend is likely to continue. If the momentum holds, Bitcoin will flip $67k and target a move above $70k.

The leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, has gained strong momentum in recent days and climbed above $66,000. In this context, $BTC has returned to its highest level in over a month, and whether the uptrend will continue seems to depend on breaking through a critical resistance level very close by.

At this point, Bitfinex analysts stated in their weekly report that the key resistance area that will determine whether the uptrend can continue is around $68,000.

Analysts say this level is critical for $BTC, as it roughly corresponds to the average purchase price of Bitcoin bought by investors over the last five months.

Market analyst Jordi Visser believes the next major cryptocurrency rally may depend on the return of a familiar force: retail investor enthusiasm.

Visser argues that the market is still missing the speculative energy that typically drives the final stages of major bull cycles.

In his view, Dogecoin ($DOGE) is one of the clearest indicators of whether retail investors are returning.

“The crypto advance continues with my 40 name ecosystem index closing above the mid-June highs and $BTC just below,” Visser wrote.

“I am still looking for a true ecosystem breakout to need the energy from retail best seen from $DOGE which had a record 65th close below the 20 day moving average.”

Visser’s thesis is not that Dogecoin directly controls the direction of Bitcoin or the entire crypto market.

Bitcoin reached $67,000 for the first time in over a month before retreating nearly $1,500, as profit-taking and macroeconomic caution interrupted its rebound.

WTI crude climbed above $85, inflation concerns resurfaced, and investors favored assets while Bitcoin dominance strengthened and derivatives traders paid more for volatility protection.

RAIN gained 6% toward $0.015, contrasting with broad altcoin weakness, DeXe’s near-90% collapse, and a $40 billion decline in total crypto market capitalization.

Bitcoin’s recovery ran into resistance at $67,000, ending a sharp two-day advance and sending the asset nearly $1,000 lower toward $65,000. The monthly high followed a rebound from Monday’s $63,750 low and extended gains from the July 1 multi-year bottom to more than $9,000. The perplexing turn is that bullish momentum vanished almost exactly where confidence appeared strongest, leaving traders to decide whether the retreat reflects ordinary profit-taking or another failed breakout. Bitcoin’s market capitalization settled near $1.32 trillion, while its dominance remained elevated as broader risk appetite weakened across markets during the latest session.

As bitcoin $BTC$66,010.81 regains its footing, optimism has returned to the market, and several observers are calling the recent price rise the start of a decisive bull run for valuations well beyond last year's $126,000 peak.

But a look back at trends in bitcoin and Nasdaq valuations, adjusted for the cost of capital represented by the U.S. 10-year yield (US10Y), suggests bull runs may be more measured. (check Today’s signal)

Both the $BTC/US10Y and Nasdaq/US10Y ratios have failed to eclipse their 2020-2021 peaks, even though their dollar-denominated prices set new record highs over the past 12 months. In other words, when adjusted for the cost of capital, the true macro tops for bitcoin and the broader tech sector likely occurred in 2020-21.

This divergence between nominal prices and yield-adjusted valuations can resolve in one of two ways. Either interest rates collapse, shrinking the denominator and propelling these ratios toward a fresh breakout, or the dollar prices of these assets decline to realign with the structural weakness revealed by the ratios.

The latter scenario appears the more likely for two reasons. First, recent rhetoric from Fed officials has remained decidedly hawkish, with some even floating the possibility of interest-rate increases.

Complicating matters further is the resurgence of energy prices. Bitcoin’s recent bounce from $58,000 to $66,000 has been respectable, yet its ratio relative to WTI crude oil futures has declined. This confirms that oil is outperforming even the most aggressive risk assets, a hint that a new wave of cost-push inflation may be loading into the system.

The takeaway: Engineering a sustained bull run may be far more difficult than market participants perceive. If oil continues its ascent, we may see a sharp "snap adjustment," with nominal prices falling rapidly, consistent with their yield-adjusted valu
