According to recent reports, several major U.S. banks are planning to launch a unified tokenized deposit network as early as the first half of 2027. The initiative is expected to be operated by a U.S. clearing institution and involve leading financial players including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, and others.
Internally referred to as “Bridge” or “Chain,” the project is not designed to create another stablecoin. Instead, its goal is to bring traditional bank deposits on-chain—enabling real-time transfers, 24/7 settlement, and more efficient cross-border capital movement.
Clearing House CEO David Watson suggested that blockchain-based payments and financial infrastructure could fundamentally reshape the banking industry.
The first wave of adoption is expected to come from multinational corporations seeking better treasury management, global payments, and liquidity optimization.
In reality, banks have already started moving: • JPMorgan previously launched tokenized deposit solutions for institutional clients
• BNY introduced blockchain-enabled deposit services
• DBS and J.P. Morgan have been exploring interoperability between different on-chain financial systems
For years, the crypto industry expected traditional finance to come on-chain. Now, it appears the banks themselves are accelerating the transition.
The question may no longer be whether banks will move on-chain — but how fast the financial system will migrate into the blockchain era.

S&P Dow Jones Indices will keep its existing eligibility requirements for benchmarks including the S&P 500, rejecting a rule change that could have allowed newly public megacap companies such as SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic to enter the index faster.

S&P said Thursday it will not grant exceptions to its financial viability, seasoning, and investable weight factor requirements solely based on market capitalization. The decision keeps the S&P 500’s stricter framework in place even as rival index providers move to accelerate inclusion for large listings.

The ruling means SpaceX would not be eligible for S&P 500 inclusion until at least one year after its listing. The company would also need to satisfy the benchmark’s profitability and public float requirements before joining the world’s most heavily tracked stock index.

For SpaceX, the setback removes a potential wall of forced buying from funds that track the S&P 500. Fast inclusion would have generated about $14 billion in passive demand for SpaceX, more than $8 billion for OpenAI, and about $4.6 billion for Anthropic, according to Bloomberg Intelligence estimates.
