Bitwise $XRP ETF Sets Three Consecutive Volume Records
Trading activity in the Bitwise $XRP ETF accelerated sharply during the three sessions ending Aug. 24, according to Bitwise Asset Management President Teddy Fusaro. The three-day run marked the fund’s busiest stretch since it began trading in November 2025, and it landed during a sharp August recovery in $XRP’s price.

Fusaro shared on X:

“Volumes in the Bitwise $XRP ETF have really popped over the last 3 sessions. The three sessions produced more than $200 million in combined trading volume. The figures represent secondary-market turnover, not net inflows into the fund.

The volume records followed a sharp recovery in $XRP, which lifted the fund’s net asset value to $15.36 on Aug. 20, an 11.71% gain, according to Bitwise. Crypto prices turned higher after the U.S. Department of the Treasury said Aug. 19 it would at least double its long-end buyback operations to $4 billion each, effective Sept. 9.

Meanwhile, trading volume rose to $770.74 million, coinciding with the swift growth. The scale of the move reflected stronger participation rather than an isolated price spike.

However, the $145.55 level remained key, as sellers had previously dominated the region. A strong break might extend the recovery towards the larger $180 area of resistance.

Aggressive buyers take control of Futures
Futures positioning added another layer of support as 90-day Taker CVD was in a buyer-dominated position during $AAVE’s rally.

Market buyers made more aggressive moves than sellers in the measured Futures activity. This positioning aligned closely with $AAVE’s rapid move from the $86.26 region toward $145.55.

Importantly, buyer dominance strengthened the demand side as the price approached a zone capable of attracting profit-taking.

Futures demand could be crucial around the $145.55 area, as more aggressive action would assist in clearing out the available sell orders. However, a prolonged period of dominance would be more important than a brief run-up after the 11.25% move.

A positive premium suggests that buyers on Coinbase are willing to pay more than the global average, often interpreted as stronger demand from U.S. institutional and retail participants. Conversely, a sustained negative premium indicates weaker buying pressure in the U.S. market relative to other regions.

According to CoinGlass, the index had been negative for 97 consecutive days starting May 19, marking the longest such streak on record. The brief flip to +0.0032% on Aug. 24 was notable, though it slipped back to -0.0141% the following day, indicating that the shift may be tentative rather than a definitive trend reversal.

The extended negative streak aligns with a period of subdued U.S. crypto trading activity, which some analysts attribute to regulatory uncertainty, seasonal liquidity patterns, and a broader risk-off sentiment among institutional investors. While the single-day positive reading is not conclusive, it adds to a growing set of on-chain and exchange flow metrics that traders watch for early signs of demand rotation.

It is important to note that the premium index is a narrow measure and can be influenced by factors such as arbitrage activity, exchange-specific liquidity, and timing of large trades. A single day’s reading does not confirm a sustained shift, but the end of a record-long negative streak could warrant closer observation in the coming weeks.

As per the latest Spot Future Average Order Size data, $ETHFI’s big whales have continued to place their orders both in the Spot and Futures markets. These developments suggested that big players are still active around the price level of $ETHFI.

The ongoing demand from whales can help boost up the recovery and offer the much-needed liquidity to counter further bearishness.


Spot buyers maintain control
That not all either as the market activity also seemed to be leaning in bulls’ favor. At the time of writing, buyers were dominating the spot market. This implied that this recovery was being powered by actual demand, rather than just leverage.

If spot buyers keep buying up the supply, $ETHFI might continue to grow towards the imbalance.
