Balaji seeks Malaysia deal, threatens exit after Network SchoolNetwork School founder Balaji Srinivasan is seeking a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia after authorities probed his Forest City tech community over allegations it was hosting Israeli citizens using second passports.

Malaysia’s Home Affairs Ministry said Tuesday it was investigating Srinivasan’s start-up community in Johor following claims it included Israelis in violation of immigration laws. Initial checks found all 266 foreigners held valid documents.

Srinivasan said the agreement would give Network School legal certainty to continue investing in Malaysia. Without it, he said, the community could take its capital to countries that are more welcoming.

“I’d like to have a document which says not just abstractly that tech is welcome … but rather that we’re personally welcome,” Srinivasan said in a video directed at Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday.

The episode highlights a tension faced by many crypto utopias, which aspire to build digital-native communities with their own institutions and economies, but still depend on conventional states for legal certainty.

The US sanctioned four crypto wallets tied to Iran’s Central Bank this week. Within hours, Tether froze $131 million in USDT sitting inside them.

It took one Treasury update and one flip of the Tether kill switch. USDT now doubles as a US sanctions weapon, and the industry is split over how issuers should police their coins.

How the Tether Kill Switch Became a US Sanctions Weapon

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the freeze. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) simply added four Tron addresses to its existing Central Bank of Iran designation.

No new sanctions were needed. The bank has been blocked since 2019 over its support for the IRGC-Qods Force and Hezbollah.

“We will continue to aggressively follow the money and deny the Iranian regime access to the proceeds of its illicit revenue schemes,” Bessent said the campaign targets Iran’s abuse of digital assets.

The wallets had taken in more than $165 million in stablecoins, Chainalysis data shows. About $34 million slipped out first. Tether locked the remaining $131 million, nearly 80% of the total.

Here is what the freeze does. The tokens stay visible on-chain, but the addresses cannot spend or send them. It is not a seizure. Iran still holds the wallets. It just cannot use them.

The mechanics are simple and fast. OFAC names the addresses. Tether flips the switch at the token level. No court order is needed. A private offshore company now enforces US foreign policy in hours, through the third-largest crypto asset, worth $184 billion.

Tether helped block $344 million the same way in April. Frozen Central Bank funds now near $475 million. Seized Iranian crypto overall has reached roughly $1 billion.

OFAC also sanctioned Nobitex and other Iranian exchanges in June for facilitating the transfer of the bank’s stablecoins.

Bitcoin rallies to $65K, but long-term holders send a warning signFor the current macro-driven rally to turn into a bull rally, investor conviction will be the key factor.

From the macro perspective, Bitcoin’s reclaim of the $65k level came alongside a softer-than-expected CPI report, signaling that inflation is cooling.

Historically, this type of macro relief has acted as a bullish catalyst, as investors, particularly long-term holders, begin to position for easier monetary conditions. With CPI coming in weaker, Bitcoin’s rally clearly highlighted this shift in market sentiment.

However, on-chain data suggests that long-term holders are still struggling to maintain their conviction. As BTC pushes toward $66k, LTH realized loss volume is rising sharply.

This indicates that cycle-top buyers are using the relief rally as an exit opportunity, selling into strength instead of waiting for a full recovery.Adding to the pressure, Glassnode recently highlighted another key signal.

According to the report, short-term holders who bought near the recent lows are now taking profit at volumes last seen around the May peak.

Together, these two forces are creating resistance for Bitcoin’s rally: Cycle-top buyers are reducing losses, while local-bottom buyers are locking in gains. With both groups selling into the same recovery, Bitcoin clearly needs stronger demand to absorb the supply.

What’s more, rising speculative liquidity around these key zones is fueling more friction for the rally. In short, it looks like Bitcoin [BTC] is entering a high-stakes setup at a time when conviction is starting to fade.
