Bitcoin worth €370m seized by CAB cannot be sold as access codes to digital wallets were lost

The Criminal Assets Bureau has been unable to realise the value of 6,000 seized bitcoins which are worth just under €370m because the access codes to digital wallets have been lost.

CAB has, though, seized and sold cryptocurrency worth almost €6.5m in the past 10 years, according to new figures from the Department of Justice.

CAB became the first law enforcement agency in the world to seize Ethereum in 2016, which it subsequently sold through a cryptocurrency exchange for €22,656.

Almost 127 bitcoins were seized and sold through a receiver on behalf of CAB in 2021, generating revenue of over €5.4m after costs. This was returned to six victims of a Sim-swapping scam.

Another tranche of seized bitcoin was sold for just over €1m by the agency, but the largest single seizure of the cryptocurrency has eluded the agency since the High Court ordered its forfeiture to the State in 2020.

A total of 6,000 bitcoins were seized from drug dealer Clifton Collins, who had run a large-scale cannabis cultivation operation for more than a decade. He had used the proceeds to purchase cryptocurrency in 2011 and 2012.

He had hidden the access codes to 12 digital wallets inside the aluminium cap of a fishing rod case in his rented house in Connemara, Co Galway. When he was jailed for his involvement in drugs, his landlord cleared out the house and the codes were lost.

The cryptocurrency was worth about €50m at the time, but its value has since grown to just under €370m.

Bitcoin above $71K on Iran Peace Talk; New BTC Price Prediction

Bitcoin is bullish after peace talks started between Iran and the United States this week, and the upward momentum may continue.
The stock market and the crypto market both shot up on Monday after Trump announced that he was having very productive talks with the Iran government over the situation in the Middle East. Bitcoin has been slipping in recent days as the war there escalated, but now it is at $71,634 (BTC/USD) and climbing.

Bitcoin had fallen to a low of $67.4K on Sunday, its lowest point since early March, and selling pressure intensified for the crypto market. The pressure was the direct result of intensifying conflict in the Middle East, as Qatar was drawn into the war after an attack on its oil facilities. Rising tensions resulted in the closing of the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil and gas shipping lane for the region.
Over the past few weeks, Bitcoin has been moving from one gain to the next and holding onto much of its progress. It is only in the last few days that it started to falter, and we suspect that the coin has regained much of its strength from the middle of 2025. Analysts agree that Bitcoin’s downward spiral in late 2025 and early 2026 has exhausted itself and that the coin is primed for explosive growth this year.

As fighting stops in Iran and the surrounding areas, this could be the chance to Bitcoin to surge much higher. We are already seeing an increase of more than 4% and climbing movement from the coin and the wider cryptocurrency market as the new week begins. Ethereum (ETH) is up nearly 5%, and Solana (SOL) has gained 4.74% since the previous day. There is bullish momentum across the market, and similar increases are taking place on the stock market.

YieldNest Launches ynRWAx Vault



YieldNest, a DeFi infrastructure provider for yield strategies, has introduced ynRWAx, a vault designed to integrate real-world credit returns into decentralized finance. The product focuses on combining tokenized assets with lending mechanisms commonly used in DeFi, including leveraged looping strategies.

The vault targets an annual yield of about 11%, based on mortgage-backed private credit linked to residential real estate in Australia. The credit operations are managed by Kimber Capital, a licensed Australian investment firm specializing in structured lending. YieldNest delivers the on-chain architecture and integrations.

ynRWAx is structured as a yield-bearing asset that allows users to gain exposure to off-chain credit markets within blockchain-based systems. It follows the ERC-4626 standard, which supports compatibility with lending protocols and broader DeFi applications without requiring special permissions.

The vault currently holds more than $7.5 million in total value locked and operates across multiple networks, including Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, and Polygon. Additional integrations include Euler and Morpho for lending, as well as Pendle and Spectra, which enable separation of fixed and variable yield components. Incentive layers are provided through Merkl and Brevis Incentra, adding extra rewards alongside the base yield.
