Schwab Crypto Begins Retail Rollout

Financial giant Charles Schwab announced on May 12 that Schwab Crypto accounts are now being rolled out to retail clients. The first group of clients can trade bitcoin ( BTC) and ethereum ( ETH) at Schwab alongside their other investments, with additional users able to sign up for updates and a chance at early access.

Retail clients will maintain a separate Schwab Crypto account offered by Charles Schwab Premier Bank, SSB. The account links directly to their Schwab brokerage accounts. Charles Schwab Premier Bank will custody client digital assets and handle safekeeping and record-keeping. Paxos will provide sub-custody and trade execution services. At launch, Schwab Crypto includes bitcoin and Ethereum trading, education, research, Schwab Coaching content, and 24/7 phone or chat support. Pricing is 75 basis points on each trade’s dollar value.
Charles Schwab explained in an April press release: “Schwab Crypto will provide direct access to bitcoin and ethereum trading, combined with educational content and experienced professional support all at a great value.”

Blockchain analytics firm Arkham has built a public, searchable map of crypto wallets it links to Iran’s central bank — a move that puts Tehran’s alleged digital holdings in plain sight of investigators and anyone else curious enough to look.

How Iran Moves Money Through Crypto
The map centers on two Tron-based wallets that were added to the US Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals list on April 24. Treasury identified both addresses as property of Bank Markazi Jomhouri Islami Iran — the country’s central bank — citing ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force and Hezbollah.

Around $344 million in crypto was frozen as part of the action, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, describing the goal as cutting off Tehran’s ability to generate, move, and bring home funds.

Stablecoin issuer Tether confirmed it had frozen the funds at the request of US authorities, citing activity tied to unlawful conduct, without naming Iran directly in its public statement.


Arkham published its research on May 11, grouping the sanctioned addresses under a Central Bank of Iran entity page that it says can be used as a starting point to trace connected wallets and transaction flows.

The firm said the wallets hold TRC-20 tokens — a token standard that runs on the Tron network and includes USDT, the world’s largest stablecoin.

A Layered System Built To Hide
The money trail is not simple. According to Chainalysis, Iranian oil revenues passed through brokers, intermediary wallets, cross-chain bridges, and decentralized finance protocols before ending up in accounts linked to Iran’s central bank and IRGC-connected entities. The pipeline was built for concealment, layered step by step to obscure its origins.

Ledger, the French crypto hardware wallet maker, has paused its plans for a US initial public offering, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.
The company had explored a New York listing at a valuation of roughly $4 billion and has not filed a draft S-1 registration statement with the SEC, the standard first formal step toward a US listing.

Ledger had hired Goldman Sachs, Jefferies, and Barclays earlier this year to advise on the offering. A Ledger spokesperson declined to comment. The company may instead pursue a private capital raise, according to one of the people familiar with the matter.

What is driving the pause

The decision reflects a broader cooling in investor appetite for crypto-native US listings. Weaker token prices, lower trading volumes, and volatile equity markets have made institutional investors more selective.

BitGo, the only crypto-native firm to go public in 2026, raised $213 million in January at $18 per share after pricing above its marketed range. Those shares have since fallen roughly 36% from that price.
