The end of MiCA’s transition period was predicted to mark the beginning of a more mature European crypto industry for all EU member states, and in many respects, it will —or at least, it should. Europe now has a regulatory framework capable of providing consumers with greater protection, institutions with more certainty and compliant digital asset businesses with a clearer foundation for operating across borders.

Yet regulation never happens in a vacuum, and the experience of the past 18 months has exposed a significant divide between European markets, creating a fragmented regulatory landscape. While most EU countries have been able to turn MiCA into an opportunity, Poland’s domestic crypto industry has been caught between a new European regulatory regime and a political bind to establish the domestic framework needed to support it.

Poland should have been one of MiCA’s greatest beneficiaries. It had a substantial community of over 2,000 registered virtual asset service providers, experienced entrepreneurs, one of the EU’s largest economies, and one of Central and Eastern Europe’s most established crypto ecosystems. Yet, as Europe moves into its regulated future, those in Poland have been left questioning whether the crypto industry they knew and loved will ever be the same again. For many, the dream and ambition crypto once offered has been well and truly snuffed out.

India to launch first tokenized corporate bonds using digital rupee

India has set plans to launch its first tokenized corporate bonds next month through an REC issue of less than 5 billion rupees ($57 million), with the digital rupee set to settle transactions on blockchain-based infrastructure.

Reuters reported on Aug. 25, citing three people with direct knowledge of the matter, that state-owned power financier REC will issue the bonds as part of a pilot being developed with the Reserve Bank of India and the Securities and Exchange Board of India.

The planned issuance will test whether distributed ledger technology can shorten the process of issuing, recording and settling corporate debt. Ownership and transaction records will be maintained digitally, allowing settlement to take place almost immediately once the required assets move between participants.

One person familiar with the plans told Reuters that the offering is expected to be unveiled during an annual financial technology event in Mumbai next month. Access will initially be restricted to a limited group of investors while regulators test the system.

“The offering would be made available to only a select group of investors at the pilot stage,” the person said.

Reuters could not determine which investors will participate. The RBI, SEBI and REC did not respond to requests for comment.

Tokenized corporate bonds will settle using India’s digital rupee

Participants in the pilot will need two separate digital accounts, according to Reuters’ sources. One will be a wholesale central bank digital currency wallet supplied by a bank, while the second will hold the tokenized securities.

India’s depositories are developing the securities wallet under a system called DEMAT 2.0, which will record investors’ bond holdings using distributed ledger technology. Subsequent transactions will only be possible between investors equipped with compatible securities and

Grayscale Launches First Zcash Spot ETF as ZEC Hits New Highs

This comes as ZEC rallies to new highs.

Crypto ETF issuer Grayscale has launched the first Zcash spot ETF, further expanding its crypto offerings. This comes as the ZEC price rallies to new highs amid renewed optimism in the crypto market, with Bitcoin breaking above $80,000.
In a press release, the crypto ETF issuer announced that its spot Zcash ETF has begun trading on the NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH. The fund becomes the first to offer institutional investors spot exposure to the privacy coin.

This follows yesterday’s report that Grayscale plans to launch the ZEC fund today after filing an 8-K with the SEC. The launch further expands Grayscale’s crypto offerings, with the asset manager already offering Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Hyperliquid, Chainlink, Dogecoin, and Sui ETFs.

The Zcash ETF launch comes amid rising demand for ZEC, as the privacy narrative heats up. Zcash has notably received endorsement from crypto stakeholders such as Cameron Winklevoss, who is backing the ZEC treasury firm Cypherpunk.

In a recent X post, he said,  “If you are bullish on AI then you are bullish on Zcash. In the age of super intelligence, private money is essential.”
