Compound bets $52 million, new leadership team in switch to institutional focus


Compound Finance, one of the oldest decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocols, replaced its leadership team and approved a $52 million budget on Monday to attract new capital after the value of assets locked on the platform tumbled to $1.2 billion from a peak of $12 billion in September 2021.

The company said it will now focus on attracting institutional users and will offer real-world assets, partner integration and credit infrastructure for traditional financial markets.

Ripple Mints 10 Million RLUSD as Institutional Demand Grows

Ripple has minted another 10 million $RLUSD on the $XRP Ledger. Data from XRPScan shows that Ripple’s $RLUSD issuer account minted 10 million tokens in a transaction processed on August 17. The transaction was successfully confirmed on the $XRP Ledger and incurred a fee of just 0.000405 $XRP.

The newly issued tokens were sent to an $RLUSD destination account. The transaction used a two-signer multisignature setup and recorded a maximum delivery amount of 10 million $RLUSD.

According to CoinGecko data, there are 1.711 billion $RLUSD in circulation. The stablecoin has recorded roughly $58 million in 24-hour trading volume, while its market capitalization has continued to expand significantly since its launch in December 2024.

Ripple also expanded $RLUSD’s compliance and institutional payments infrastructure in July through a partnership with Notabene. The integration brings $RLUSD to Notabene Flow, a business-to-business stablecoin payments platform, while the companies are exploring ways to connect Notabene’s transaction authorization and compliance infrastructure with Ripple Payments.

Another major milestone came in June: $RLUSD officially launched in Japan after receiving approval from the Japan Financial Services Agency. SBI VC Trade began offering the stablecoin through its VCTRADE platform to both institutional and retail customers. SBI described $RLUSD as Japan’s first stablecoin handled under the country’s fourth category of electronic payment instruments.

Ripple has also been widening $RLUSD’s regional reach. In June, the company announced partnerships with BiLira, Bitexen and Bitlo that made $RLUSD available to institutions in Türkiye.

Finbold AI Agent projects that the cryptocurrency is going to trade at an average price of $0.98 on September 1, 2026, representing a modest 0.85% decline from the levels at press time, August 17.

The figure was the joint result of three language learning models (LLMs), namely DeepSeek Chat, ChatGPT-5.7 Luna, and Grok 4.5.

Among the three models, DeepSeek Chat was the only bullish one, predicting that $XRP would actually climb 4.5% to $1.04 by September 1.

DeepSeek was the most bearish, with an $XRP price prediction of $0.94, which is a 5.78% drop. ChatGPT’s projection agreed with the average at $0.99.

Will $XRP price recover in September?
$XRP has been on a steady downard trajectory so far in August, which has brought the price down nearly 8.5% on the monthly chart.

Looking at historical data, however, it appears that August has been a tough period for the asset for five years now, according to the latest MSB Intel data.

For example, $XRP lost 8% in August 2025 too. In the same month in 2024, the price dropped 9%. Even more notable were the 2023 and 2022 pullbacks of 27% and 14%, respectively.

However, each of the aforementioned corrections were followed by September rallies. For instance, the 14% drop in August 2022 was followed by a 45% uptick over the following month. In 2023, $XRP gained 1% in September, while in the same period in 2024 and 2025 it gained 8% and 3%, respectively.

Of course, this does not prove that $XRP momentum will necessarily reverse in the coming weeks, but the trend is nonetheless worth keeping in mind as we approach the end of

The Stellar network is preparing for a significant update later this month, an improvement expected to bring several important enhancements to the chain. The Stellar Development Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement and growth of the Stellar network, plans to roll out the Protocol 28 (Adapter) upgrade on August 27, according to data shared by the Web3 developer platform BuildonStellar.

This network upgrade is crucial, aiming to further optimize smart contract development on the protocol and improve the effectiveness and speed of the platform’s core infrastructure.

What’s Inside the Protocol 28 Upgrade
Powered by its native XLM token, the Stellar network is a decentralized, public blockchain built to connect global financial systems and enable rapid, secure, and cost-effective cross-border transactions. Its move to activate Protocol 28, also known as the Adapter upgrade, aims to make the crypto network more effective for users. The initiative marks a critical juncture for the Stellar network as the countdown ticks down, with the upgrade’s mainnet activation set to occur on August 27.

On this day, the Protocol 28 upgrade will deploy improvements on Stellar’s Soroban smart contracts and network functionality. With incoming activation, the update aims to introduce innovative tools to drive efficient smart contract coordination (and execution) and facilitate efficient data migrations on Stellar, making on-chain application maintenance seamless for developers. Specifically, the Adapter upgrade introduces multiple improvements designed to remove barriers developers face when managing smart contracts.

Bitcoin's biggest holders, Strategy and Metaplanet, are betting on math, not price
Bitcoin $BTC$63,636.04 continues to trade in a narrow price band, and two of its biggest corporate believers aren't blinking.

Simon Gerovich, CEO of Metaplanet, and Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy, two of the cryptocurrency’s biggest corporate holders, have doubled down on their argument that $BTC’s maximum issuance of 21 million coins beats infinite money printing, whatever the price is doing this week.

On Sunday, Gerovich noted that the global M2 money supply has reached an all-time high of over $100 trillion, calling it a bullish long-term tailwind for the cryptocurrency.

“Bitcoin's price has decoupled from liquidity over the past year. But supply schedules don't change,” Gerovich said. “21 million will always be 21 million. When the money supply expands forever, you hold the asset that can't. That's why we hold hard money.”

Bitcoin’s price has decoupled from broader liquidity expansion over the past year. Even as M2 money supply swelled, $BTC has nearly halved to $63,500. The divergence is consistent with previous market cycles, in which bearish trends bitcoin's price temporarily detached from rising macroeconomic liquidity.

Saylor voiced a similar opinion in a different framing. He said that understanding bitcoin requires first understanding money itself.

“Money is energy. Bitcoin is digital monetary energy,” he stated, drawing from his recent essay arguing that money functions as stored economic energy created by human effort, and that bitcoin represents its most efficient digital form because “its supply cannot be expanded arbitrarily.”

Strategy holds 840,447 $BTC, worth $53 billion, making it the world's largest publicly listed bitcoin holder. Tokyo-listed Metaplanet holds 43,000 $BTC ($2.7 billion), putting it in third place, according to data source
