CME Group, one of the world’s largest derivatives exchanges, has announced a new index futures product for the cryptocurrency market.

The company announced it will launch the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index Futures product on June 8, provided it receives regulatory approval.

The new product will be CME Group’s first market capitalization-weighted futures contract. Available in both micro and standard sizes, it will provide investors with access to the broad cryptocurrency market through a single financially settled futures contract. The index currently includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, Chainlink, and Stellar.

Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products at CME Group, stated that the new product will offer investors access to the crypto market in a regulated and cost-effective manner. Vicioso noted that demand for the company’s crypto futures products continues to grow, with average daily trading volume increasing by 43% since the beginning of the year.

Sean Wasserman, Head of Index Product Management at Nasdaq, stated that investors now need reliable indicators that reflect broader market performance, not just individual cryptocurrencies. Wasserman argued that the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index was developed to address this need, and that index-based futures trading is a natural step in market development.

In comparison to the top five coins, none moved in the same direction. Bitcoin OI slipped 0.36%. Ethereum added 0.94%. Solana dropped 5.96%. XRP fell 2.52%. All four traded lower on the day. $DOGE held near $0.1157, up about 1%.

As Cryptopolitan reported earlier, $DOGE open interest stood at $629 million the previous week. It has nearly tripled since.

XRP, DOGE surge 5%, bitcoin above $81,000 as CLARITY Act clears Senate banking panel

Crypto pushed through the macro selling on Friday, with bitcoin reclaiming $81,000 after the U.S. Senate Banking Committee advanced the Clarity Act in a 15-9 bipartisan vote late Thursday.

Bitcoin traded at $81,055 in Asian hours, up 2.3% over 24 hours and 1.9% over the past seven days, per CoinDesk data, recovering the level it had slipped under on Wednesday's producer price index print.

$XRP led the major altcoins with a 4.5% gain to $1.49, extending its weekly run to 7.6% and making it the standout performer on the seven-day tape. Dogecoin added 3% to $0.1159 and is now up 8.9% over the past seven days, while BNB gained 2% to $681 and solana climbed 2% to $91.

The Clarity Act vote was the first major bipartisan move on crypto market structure legislation in months. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott managed a last-moment maneuver to admit amendments he had earlier rejected, winning over two Democratic votes and securing the 15-9 margin after several hours of partisan sniping.

"This process has been one of the most informative and challenging processes I've been through as a United States senator," Scott said after the vote, as CoinDesk reported. Senator Elizabeth Warren, the committee's ranking Democrat, objected to the procedural shift that brought the additional amendments back into play, telling colleagues "the deal you like, it's not the deal I like."

The bill now moves to a merger with a similar version approved earlier by the Senate Agriculture Committee in a party-line vote. The merged legislation will then face a full Senate vote, followed by the U.S. House of Representatives. Several substantive issues remain unresolved, including law enforcement concerns and an ethics provision that several Democrats have flagged as a condition for their broader support.

What’s actually on the table in Congress
The legislative discussions Armstrong is referencing center on the Clarity Act and related negotiations happening on Capitol Hill. Among the key provisions under discussion are stablecoin rewards and protections for software developers.
Armstrong acknowledged that the process has involved compromises. He noted concessions made to satisfy the demands of the bank lobby and Senate negotiators regarding stablecoin activity.

The CLARITY Act cleared the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday in a 15-9 vote, marking the most important step yet for the most important crypto regulation bill in US history. Markets responded immediately. Bitcoin climbed to $81,449, Ethereum rose to $2,288, and $XRP surged 4.51% to $1.49, leading major altcoins higher on the news.

Crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe broke down what comes next and what it actually means for prices across the major digital assets.

Van de Poppe opened up about the procedural challenges still ahead. The bill now moves to the full Senate where it needs 60 votes to pass. Only two Democrats joined Republicans on the committee vote, which means significant outreach across the aisle is still required.

From there it heads to House reconciliation, which should be largely a formality since the House already approved an earlier version of the bill. After presidential signature, agency rulemaking begins, a process that typically takes one to two years before regulations actually take effect.

The GENIUS Act for stablecoins followed exactly this timeline. The stablecoin market has rocketed since its approval, providing a clear template for what CLARITY Act implementation could mean for the broader crypto market.

Van de Poppe was clear that this is not going to trigger an immediate vertical move higher. The market does not work that way. But the structural shift is significant.

For Bitcoin and Ethereum, the bill cements their status as digital commodities under CFTC jurisdiction, removing the regulatory overhang that has kept some institutional capital sidelined for years. For $XRP, the legislation does something arguably more significant. It codifies Judge Torres’ ruling into permanent federal law, making the question of whether $XRP is a security legally settled rather than subject to future SEC interpretation
